  • We are studying the Revelation of Jesus Christ as it reveals a panoramic view of God’s global purpose and eternal triumph for ages.
    The reason Revelation is so important is that it allows us to grasp the mission of the church and glory of the Gospel by seeing the BIG PICTURE.
    The Book of Revelation is the BIG picture.
    Revelation unveils the magnitude of sin and the ultimate triumph of the Cross and the Kinsmen Redeemer of the saved and the earth.
    The gospel that we should cherish and share is a living message from the living God for His living people just like us. People with sorrows, regrets, and heartaches.
    The gospel is where we find our hope, an absolute assurance of eternal life when the final judgment is made and the universe as we know it collapses and burned with fire.
    As we are studying these 3 Woes of the sounding of the final 3 trumpets, we should see the “good news” of the gospel.
    Revelation 9:12 KJV 1900
    12 One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
    After a long grueling 5 months of the torment of demonic locusts on those that have not professed Jesus Christ as their Lord, the 6th trumpet is about to sound ushering in a supernatural warfare.
    Revelation 9:13–15 KJV 1900
    13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

    Horsemen of Vengeance:

    Four angels bound are loosed.
    Being bound, reveal these are fallen, unholy angels, a part of the 3rd of all angels created that rebelled with Satan against God and were cast from heaven.
    Remember, holy angels are unbound, freely waiting to serve God and God’s children.
    We discovered last week with the Abyss that God has imprisoned some of the worst of the worst of the demons. Demons of torment and death upon mankind.
    Today, we discover another group of demons bound and loosed from within the river of Euphrates.
    In Revelation 7, we discovered four unfallen, holy angels, restraining the judgment of God until the 144,000 were protected by the Seal of God upon their foreheads.
    Now, we discover 4 fallen, unholy angels, being loosed for the purpose of executing God’s judgment upon mankind.
    As we press on this morning, do not lose sight of the fact that God is still very much in control even while choosing to allow Satan’s own hosts to bring about the powers of evil upon this earth and mankind.
    He is in so much control, he knows the exact time, the hour, the day, the month, and the year, this will take place.
    These 4 demonic personages will destroy 1/3 of the human race that is left at this time.
    The vegetation and water has already been reduced by 1/3 in Rev 8:7-10 with the sounding of the 1st Trumpet.

    Begins at the Altar of God:

    13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
    This is the 2nd mention of this altar in Revelation.
    The first mention was in Rev 8:3
    Revelation 8:3 KJV 1900
    3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
    Just a bit of review, When exploring the tabernacle and later the Temple, we find 2 altars, the Brazen Altar, which was in the outer court while the Altar of Incense was in the Holy Place right before going into the presence of God in the Holy of Holies.
    The Brazen Altar is mentioned 6 times in Revelation. In the Old Testament, the Brazen Altar was a place of Sacrifice.
    The Altar of Incense is the Altar that stands before the throne. Every morning and evening except for the Day of Atonement, incense was burned on the golden altar in the Holy Place.
    On the Day of Atonement, the blood of sacrificial animals was put upon the four golden horns of the altar. You can read about this ceremony in Leviticus 16:18-19.
    The Brazen Altar was where the Blood was Shed, pointing to the cross and the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
    The Altar of Incense was where the priest burned sweet aromatic spices twice a day and where after the High Priest left the Holy of Holies after applying the blood on the mercy seat would take some of the blood and place it upon the four horns of the altar and sprinkle the blood upon the incense with his finger 7 times to cleanse and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
    In chapter 8, we hear the prayers of the saints of the earth praying for vengeance.
    In chapter 9, we see God about to judge the persecutors of the saints who will be on earth at that time.

    Commences from the Great River Euphrates:

    14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
    Again, paying attention to the words is important. These four angels are not the four angels of Revelation 7 standing at the four corners of the earth, but rather these four are bound in the River Euphrates.
    Rev 7 angels are holding back evil.
    Rev 9 angels are letting loose the human and satanic instruments of destruction and judgment.
    Notice where they come from.

    The Place Mentioned:

    Revelation 9:14 KJV 1900
    14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
    The Great River Euphrates began in one of the ealiest sites of civilization.
    The Bible mentions the Garden of Eden had four tributaries that flowed from within and one of those rivers was the Euphrates. However, the Garden of Eden was lost in the Great Flood of Noah’s day.
    Although, up until that time, the garden was protected by 4 cherubim guarding the Tree of Life that we will discover later in this study is safely planted in heaven as of now.
    Therefore, it was near this Euphrates river that Satan began his first diabolical work against our original parents, Adam and Eve, that resulted in a fallen race.
    It was near the River Euphrates that the first murder was committed after the fall. Gen 4:8.
    It was also near the Euphrates River that man organized a one world order of rebellion against God. Gen 11.
    The Euphrates River is also frequently associated with Babylon, first in the days of Nebuchadnezzar, then as teh center of opposition to God later in Revelation 17-18.
    Every time we read of the Euphrates, Satan seems to be present.

    12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
    Another neat fact is in Genesis 15:18

    18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
    The river Euphrates was the boundary of the land of Israel. Beyond this river, was found some of Israel’s greatest enemies, particularly Assyria and Babylon.
    The Euphrates River is mentioned twice in Revelation. Here and the passage we read earlier from Rev 16 both use the word “great” when mentioning the Euphrates. The Euphrates is very impressive at about 1,780 miles in length and is by far the longest and most important river in western Asia.

    A Plan Mentioned:

    15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
    God will loose these angels on His time schedule to accomplish His purpose. No man or angel can execute God’s will in God’s time.

    The Purpose Mentioned:

    15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
    The mission of these angels is to slay 1/3 of the inhabitants of the earth.
    It is ironic to follow from the opening of the 4th seal, the rider of the pale horse was given power “over 1/4 of the earth to kill with sword, hunger, and death.”
    In Rev 8, 1/3 of the various elements in creation was destroyed, but not man.
    In the 5th Trumpet judgment, men were tormented by the locusts but were not killed.
    But now, in Rev 9:15 1/3 of the remaining people on earth are killed. A 1/4 and a 1/3 represent 1/2 of the world’s population dead in just 2 judgments and this does not count those that died through the plagues, drinking the bitter water and the martyrs of God.
    We are talking Biblical proportions of the earth’s population come under God’s righteous judgment. This hasn’t been seen since Noah and the Flood.
    This fact will be repeated in Rev 9:18

    18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

    Army of Death

    Revelation 9:16 KJV 1900
    16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
    The moment the four bound angels are released from the constraints, a multitude of 2 million calvary overrun the earth.
    Supernatural horses are not anything new in Revelation.
    Horses of fire took Elijah to heaven.
    Horses and chariots of fire protected Elisha at Dothan.
    Heavenly horses and horsemen introduce the dominion of Christ.
    Again, where Christ has his calvary, Satan has his inferno, demonic calvary.
    All supernatural things are not of God. Paul spoke of demonic forces also in Eph 6:12.
    Ephesians 6:12 KJV 1900
    12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

    The Size of the Army

    200 thousand thousand = 200 million.
    If a legion of demons can possess one man, with a Roman legion being 6,000 men, then 200 million may just be a small part of the Satan’s evil forces.

    The Seriousness of the Army

    Revelation 9:17 KJV 1900
    17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.

    The Warriors:

    Breast plates of fire - Red/Orange
    Jacinth - the Hyacinth flower is deep purple or reddish Blue. The gem is the same color.
    Brimstone = properly Sulphur, simply yellow
    Colors of Fire and Hell, and God’s judgment. We saw fire and brimstone in the judgment of Sodom.

    29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
    We will also see this judgment of fire and brimstone against Babylon in Rev 14:10, and against the the beast and false prophet in Rev 19:20, Satan in Rev 20:10, and eventually all unbelievers in Rev 21:8

    8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    True hell released on earth is a ghastly place.

    The Horses:

    17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
    The heads were as the heads of lions = not that they were heads of lions but were as heads of lions.
    Their mouths = breathed fire, smoke, and brimstone, the very colors and elements of hell.

    18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
    It is not the seizing with their jaws, or the taking of flesh into their mouths, nor the slaying with teeth or claws, but the stifling, sooty, sulphureous, fiery breath with fire, smoke, and brimstone that slaughter mankind.
    Again, this is not a scene of destruction by scientific methods of modern or ancient warfare, but rather the destructive forces of hell. being let loose.
    The horseman are defensive, the horses are offensive. Remember, the locust were did not kill men just tormented them. but this army leaves 1/3 of earth’s population dead.
    Revelation 9:19 KJV 1900
    19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
    mouth = singular
    tails = plural were like unto serpents. It seems each hair had a head which would indicate many serpents inflicting destruction.
    The Serpent was the chosen creature in which Satan hid himself in deceiving Eve.
    The first woe the locust had power to injure in their tail.
    The second woe the horses have power to destroy in their mouth and tails.
    However, for our study, this is where we need to get to this morning.

    Men of Defiance:

    I want you to notice the attitude of the 2/3 of mankind that survived. I believe if I were in this situation I would be seeking God with all my heart. However, that might explain why I have already chosen Him as Lord of my life.

    No Repentance:

    20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
    Revelation 9:21 KJV 1900
    21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
    These last 2 verses of the Chapter and the 6th Trumpet and the 2nd Woe reveal the depravity in man’s heart.
    Idolatry is at the core of an unrepentant heart. They refuse to worship the God who created them and made them, but gladly worship things made of their “own hands”.
    When we worship anything other than God, we might as well just worship Satan.
    Idolatry is a cold, callous disregard for the will and purpose of God.
    Idolatry is always rooted in sinfulness…selfishness…a defiant heart…lawless independence…and disdain for the Holy God…which invites and deserves the Holy judgment of God.
    However, we again notice that God does not yet destroy everyone but leaves a remnant of 2/3 to have the opportunity to repent.
    This remnant is not because they deserve to live, but because God even in wrath remembers His grace and mercy.
    Paul warns the church of their association with fellowship with the devils.
    1 Corinthians 10:20–21 KJV 1900
    20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
    When the church is removed, and the restrainer, the Holy Spirit, is removed we get a glimpse of the depravity of man as they become controlled by Satan’s evil kingdom.
    Works always follow doctrine and are developed from it. A man becomes what he believes.
    This is why doctrine is so very important.
    A false doctrine will lead to false character.
    Notice the non repenting nature of man as seen in their hearts becoming harder, human life is cheaper, public opinion makes no outcry of the need of repentance.

    No Restraints:

    3 of these 4 sins mentioned are direct violation of the Ten Commandments.
    Murders = Ever since Cain killed Abel in the beginning, murder is a common crime, abortion is widely accepted, euthanasia is a growing fad. Life is cheap and disregarded as important.
    Sorceries = Pharmakeia, which we derive pharmacy. This refers to drug use and the administration of drugs while referring to the poisoning, while the use of drugs as magic preparations by sorcerers give the further idea of sorcery. We are seeing an increase in drug addictions that are destroying the will of its victims and allowing the control of the mind to the devil.
    I believe drugs will be a huge factor with the Antichrist making the population subservient to his will.
    Fornication = Pornia, which we derive our word pornography. This is speaking of the flagrant disregard for the sacred institution of marriage, anything sexual outside of marriage. As horrible as this is in our day and time, just wait until the church and the Holy Spirit are gone.
    thefts = deals with abounding dishonesty, the obliteration of moral distinctions, the disregard of other’s rights, and the practice of fraud, theft, and deceit whenever and wherever possible.
    Ephesians 5:6 KJV 1900
    6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
    The only thing wrong in our society is to get caught. With the Godly influence gone, the bonds of society will be loosened and mutual respect of other’s rights will be gone. Greed will lure on the mass of men “not killed” to enrich themselves at the expense of society. It will definitely be a world of “EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF.”
    2 Thessalonians 2:9–12 KJV 1900
    9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    Payday is coming Someday.
    The question is, “Are you prepared?”
    Are you willing to repent now and bow before the Lord Almighty, Dethrone yourself, and Believe the Truth.
