Johann August Wilhelm Neander (January 17, 1789 – July 14, 1850), was a nineteenth-century church historian and theologian. Born to a Jewish family, Neander converted to Christianity at an early age. He studied divinity at the University of Halle, where he was influenced by Friedrich Schleiermacher. He is the author of The Epistle of James, History of the Planting and Training of the Christian Church by the Apostles, andThe First Epistle of John, Practically Explained.
