This Sunday 4/30/2023, Rev. Melinda will share her wisdom about the early church (Acts 2).
Acts shows us that the early Christians shared things. Whenever they had a meal, they made sure that no one went hungry. They would also sell things to help people that are in need. The important point in all of this is that they did all these things with joy because they wanted to live their lives, which Jesus commended.
Because they served others with love, many people wanted to be part of this group. That's how the church grew.
We will have a great opportunity this Sunday to share our love with our neighbors. "Make A Difference Day" is the chance to serve our community with 18 different projects which directly impact our Long Beach community. 283 people have signed up so far, but we still need more volunteers. So please help make a difference in our community and sign up for the event!
After our Sunday worship service, we will be going to Temple Israel as a group. Pizza will be provided, there will be a short orientation for the projects, and then we will depart. The synagogue is located off of 3rd and Loma. The website and address is provided below:

It’s Star Wars Night, and may the FORCE be with you! Join us right at 5:45pm to make your very own lightsaber so we can battle the evil forces at work! If you have newspapers, bring them with you because we need a lot. After simple dinner and worship, we will have our small groups for all ages and stages.

Our next study will be about Jesus AND Paul, with an emphasis on the author who wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. There will be NO homework in this 9 week study.

The 2023 Relay For Life event is Saturday, June 3rd and now is the time to start signing up for the Being The Church team! This year we are happy to invite members from all of our Being the Church cohorts to join our team and walk with us in an effort transformation of the world for the sake of others by fighting cancer!
Relay participants are determined to help the American Cancer Society fight all stages of all cancers, in all communities and this event has been an important mission of both BHUMC and Los Altos UMC for many years.
American Cancer Society Relay For Life events bring communities together, where teams take turns walking or running around a track or path. Symbolizing that no one should face cancer alone, we take turns or walk together to show our passion for seeing the end of cancer in our lifetime.
Please join our team and walk with us or make a donation to support our fundraising goal. Everyone who contributes is part of the solution!

It’s that time again! Registration for Groundlings Camp 2023 is officially open!

Groundlings Day Camp is a multi-generational ministry of Being the Church, Long Beach. We strive to offer every Groundlings camper a sense of deep belonging in a supportive community of peers through a whole lot of recreation and play, creativity, and fun. Paired in “family groups” throughout the day, Groundlings campers learn about themselves and one another, and our collective faith story.
Camp runs Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Campers must be entering Kindergarten - 8th grade
Join us for a sleepover and get a taste of youth fun! We welcome upper elementary students to join our middle school youth for a weekend of fun & service!
Friday Night at 5:30 pm drop off at at Belmont Heights UMC.
Saturday morning pick up options:
- Pick up at 8:00 am at Belmont Heights
- Pick up your youth at 8:00 am and join us for Servant Saturday
- Have your youth brought to Servant Saturday at Farm Lot 59 and pick them up at 11:00 am
Cost is $10 per person to cover dinner & breakfast
