Hello, BHUMC family!
This Sunday, we are going to celebrate Mother’s Day together!
We will learn about images of God described as a mother.
Also, the sacrament of Holy Communion will be offered.
ALL women who have mothered others in many different ways will be given special gifts!
I would like to share information about this year’s Relay for Life. (Thank you, Lori!)
“Hi, friend, This year’s Relay for Life of Greater Long Beach is happening Saturday, June 3rd, at the LONG BEACH POA PARK (7390 E Carson Blvd, Long Beach, CA). It is an all day event 9am to 9pm - ending with the traditional Luminaria Ceremony.

Closing Everyone's Inn with “Service Night”

$7 per person/$25 maximum per family

Join us for our closing “Inn” dinner church of the spring season! We will gather and celebrate our good God! We will lift up our graduates as well as thank our small group leaders plus all of our volunteers. Following dinner, we will have a service night for everyone. We will make “no-sew” fleece blankets for our unsheltered persons in Long Beach. If you would like to make a blanket or sponsor someone to make a blanket, please pre-purchase ($15 per blanket) ahead of time, so we know how many kits to purchase.

Farm Lot 59 is a working urban farm that specializes in growing rare and unusual varieties of flowers and organic vegetables. The farm’s mission is to incubate and inspire the culture of urban farming in our community through education, food accessibility, and by being a model of sustainable agriculture practices. We will serve on the farm together after simple communion and prayer. All ages are welcome!
DETAILS:
- Where: Meet at the Farm Lot 59 Parking Lot.
- What to Bring: Signed Waiver (access during online registration). Water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, closed-toed shoes, garden gloves, tools
Our next study will be about Jesus AND Paul, with an emphasis on the author who wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. There will be NO homework in this 9 week study.
Thursday mornings, beginning May 4th
10 to11:30am via Zoom
All are invited regardless of any previous biblical knowledge.

Coffee hour provides refreshments directly following Worship. Coffee Hour serves more than the purpose of fulfilling snack attacks and satisfying caffeine withdrawal.

The 2023 Relay For Life event is Saturday, June 3rd and now is the time to start signing up for the Being The Church team! This year we are happy to invite members from all of our Being the Church cohorts to join our team and walk with us in an effort transformation of the world for the sake of others by fighting cancer!
Relay participants are determined to help the American Cancer Society fight all stages of all cancers, in all communities and this event has been an important mission of both BHUMC and Los Altos UMC for many years.
American Cancer Society Relay For Life events bring communities together, where teams take turns walking or running around a track or path. Symbolizing that no one should face cancer alone, we take turns or walk together to show our passion for seeing the end of cancer in our lifetime.
Please join our team and walk with us or make a donation to support our fundraising goal. Everyone who contributes is part of the solution!

It’s that time again! Registration for Groundlings Camp 2023 is officially open!

Groundlings Day Camp is a multi-generational ministry of Being the Church, Long Beach. We strive to offer every Groundlings camper a sense of deep belonging in a supportive community of peers through a whole lot of recreation and play, creativity, and fun. Paired in “family groups” throughout the day, Groundlings campers learn about themselves and one another, and our collective faith story.
Camp runs Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Campers must be entering Kindergarten - 8th grade
Join us for a sleepover and get a taste of youth fun! We welcome upper elementary students to join our middle school youth for a weekend of fun & service!
Friday Night at 5:30 pm drop off at at Belmont Heights UMC.
Saturday morning pick up options:
- Pick up at 8:00 am at Belmont Heights
- Pick up your youth at 8:00 am and join us for Servant Saturday
- Have your youth brought to Servant Saturday at Farm Lot 59 and pick them up at 11:00 am
Cost is $10 per person to cover dinner & breakfast
