“The Buck Stops Here!”
Wikipedia gives the history behind the phrase, “The buck stops here! "The buck stops here" is a phrase that was popularized by U.S. President Harry S. Truman, who kept a sign with that phrase on his desk in the Oval Office. The phrase refers to the notion that the President has to make the decisions and accept the ultimate responsibility for those decisions. We live in day and age which many people do not take responsibility for their actions. In the USA, 70 percent of all people married end up divorced despite their vows to remain together for life. The modern day politician always blames the other person or political party and does not take responsibility for failed policies or actions. All over the world we see men getting women pregnant and not taking responsibility for the little babies in need of a father and support. The list goes on and on about people not taking responsibility.
The question is “If you confess to be a Christian, are you taking responsibilities seriously?” Many people make promises and never fulfill them. Christians and churches are the worst at times in breaking commitments and promises. This is why many people don’t attend church and reject Christianity. Who are you? Are you reliable or another promise breaker?
Jesus is a promise keeper. Jesus always follows up on issues and completes the task at hand.
We who profess to be Christians should learn from the example that Jesus demonstrated while on earth and now in heaven. Matthew 5:37 states, “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No’’. Today is a good day to start keeping our promises and stop the unhealthy cycle of broken promises and being unreliable.
Thanks be to God for God’s reliability and promises kept!
