I. God’s Character – Daniel 2:20–23
A. Evidence of God’s Wisdom – Daniel 2:21
1. “He Gives Wisdom to the Wise” and “Knowledge to Those Who Know Understanding”
2. “He Reveals Deep and Secret Things…” – Daniel 2:22
the deep things = deep mysteries; “deep things that only God knows.” (Baker and Eugene E. Carpenter, The Complete Word Study Dictionary: Old Testament, 846)
secret = hidden things, secret things, something not normally able to be known (Swanson, Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Aramaic)
A mystery, in the New Testament is a truth never previously known, and a truth which human intellect could never discover, but one which has now been made known [by God’s revelation.]
This particular mystery is the truth that believing Jews and believing Gentiles are made fellow heirs, fellow members of the Body of Christ, and fellow partakers of His promise in Christ by the gospel (Ephesians 3:6). (William MacDonald, Believer’s Bible Commentary: Old and New Testaments, 1742.)
3. “He Knows What is in the Darkness…” – Daniel 2:22
darkness = used figuratively of darkness as the place of mystery or ignorance but which the God of Daniel knows fully (Dan. 2:22). (Baker & Carpenter, The Complete Word Study Dictionary: OT, 387)
light = illumination, insight, understanding (James Swanson, Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Aramaic)
Concerning the teaching of Jesus, Jehovah's Witnesses teach that Jesus was a created being (Aid to Bible Understanding, p. 390-391), that He was Michael the archangel who became a man (The Watchtower, May 15, 1963, p. 307; The New World, 284), that He was not God in the flesh (Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985, p. 306), nor did He rise from the dead in His physical body (Awake! July 22, 1973, p. 4). The Seventh Day Adventists also teach that Jesus is Michael the Archangel. The Mormons teach that Jesus was the first spirit to be born in heaven (Mormon Doctrine, p. 129) and that He and Lucifer are spirit brothers (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163; Gospel Through the Ages, p. 15).
