James the apostle began in his epistle that we are to count it all joy when we fall into various trials. The trials themselves are designed and sent to produce patience. Patience is not the ability to wait but it is the strength to endure and persevere despite trouble. James in the verse below calls this steadfastness. Steadfastness is only produced in turbulent troublesome difficulties and so we should upon these trials with joy because they WILL produce perseverance or steadfastness. Steadfastness is necessary because when it has its full effect - when we develop steadfast walk and character then were are perfect and complete lacking nothing. Perfect meaning complete and thoroughly equipped. Lacking nothing necessary to walk in faith successfully in this life. We need steadfastness to be complete and lacking nothing - to develop steadfastness we need trials and troubles. We can see the trials and troubles instead of burdensome and unfair - we can choose to see them as opportunities to develop our steadfastness to be lacking in nothing.
