Prelude "How Majestic Is Your Name"
Opening Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, give us a measure of your spirit that we may be enabled to obey your teaching to pacify anger, to take part in pity, to moderate desire, to increase love, to put away sorrow, to cast away vainglory, not to be vindictive, not to fear death, ever entrusting our spirit to immortal God, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns world without end. Amen
"Sunday's Palms Are Wednesday's Ashes"
1. *Sunday's palms are Wednesday's ashes as another Lent begins;
thus we kneel before our Maker in contrition for our sins.
We have marred baptismal pledges, in rebellion gone astray;
now, returning, seek forgiveness; grant us pardon, God, this day!
2. We have failed to love our neighbors, their of fences to forgive,
have not listened to their troubles, nor have cared just how they live,
we are jealous, proud, impatient, loving overmuch our things;
may the yielding of our failings be our Lenten offering.
3. We are hasty to judge others, blind to proof of human need;
and our lack of understanding demonstrates our inner greed;
we have wasted earth's resources; want and suffering we've ignored;
come and cleanse us, then restore us; make new hearts within us, Lord!

Lords Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

"Jesus Is Lord of All"
Doxology
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!
"Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley"
1. Jesus walked this lonesome valley;
he had to walk it by himself.
Oh, nobody else could walk it for him;
he had to walk it by himself.
2. We must walk this lonesome valley;
we have to walk it by ourselves.
oh, nobody else can walk it for us;
we have to walk it by ourselves.
3. You must go and stand your trial;
you have to stand it by yourself.
Oh, nobody else can stand it for you;
you have to stand it by yourself.

Isaiah 61:1-6
61
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
2
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
4
They will rebuild the ancient ruins
and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.
5
Strangers will shepherd your flocks;
foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
6
And you will be called priests of the Lord,
you will be named ministers of our God.
You will feed on the wealth of nations,
and in their riches you will boast.
Psalm 27:2-3
Psalm 27:2-3
L: (2) When evildoers assail me,
L: To devour my flesh,
L: My adversaries and foes
L: Shall stumble and fall.
ALL: (3) Though a host encamp against me,
ALL: My heart shall not fear;
ALL: Though war arise against me,
ALL: Yet I will be confident.
Luke 4:14-30
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[a]
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.
23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”
24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy[b] in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”
28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
Sermon
"Were You There"
1. Were you there when they crucified my Lord? (were you there) Were you there when they crucified my Lord? (were you there) Oh! sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they crucified my Lord? (were you there)
2. Were you there when they nailed him to the tree? (were you there) Were you there when they nailed him to the tree? (were you there) Oh! sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they nailed him to the tree? (were you there)
3. Were you there when they pierced him in the side? (were you there) Were you there when they pierced him in the side? (were you there) Oh! sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they pierced him in the side? (were you there)
4. Were you there when the sun refused to shine? (were you there) Were you there when the sun refused to shine? (were you there) Oh! sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when the sun refused to shine? (were you there)
5. Were you there when they laid him in the tomb? (were you there) Were you there when they laid him in the tomb? (were you there) Oh! sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. Were you there when they laid him in the tomb? (were you there)
