Prelude

Call to Worship* (Unison)

Leader: When we come before God, we do not rely on eloquent words or human wisdom.

People: We come trusting in the power of God.

Leader: We proclaim Christ crucified---the wisdom of God revealed through love and sacrifice.

People: What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, God has prepared for those who love Him.

Leader: These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit.

All: Let us worship God, not in our own strength, but guided by the Spirit, that our faith may rest on the power of God. Amen.

†Morning Invocation

What is an Invocation?

Gracious and heavenly Father, we come before You today acknowledging that Your wisdom far exceeds our own. We confess that too often we rely on our understanding, our abilities, and our words, instead of fully trusting in Your power and Your Spirit. Strip away our pride, our distractions, and our need to impress, so that we may stand humbly before You, dependent on Your grace alone. Lord, Your Word reminds us that Your wisdom is hidden from the world but revealed through the Holy Spirit. We pray now that Your Spirit would move among us--- opening our hearts, sharpening our understanding, and helping us discern what You are saying to us today. Teach us to think not with the mind of the world, but with the mind of Christ. Shape our thoughts, our decisions, and our relationships so that they reflect Your love, Your truth, and Your holiness. We offer this prayer trusting in the power of Your Spirit, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Affirmation of Faith

What is The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Gloria Patri*

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen. Amen.

Thank You – MLK DAY

What an incredible MLK Weekend at Centenary! We hoped to fill our 350-seat sanctuary, but instead nearly 600 people gathered for the MLK Mid-day Luncheon and Memphis Men Rising, and more than 1,000 people walked through our doors during this event.

We were blessed by the presence of labor unions, community organizers, and people of goodwill from every walk of life. Your presence made this moment powerful and unforgettable.

A heartfelt thank you to the members who supported and rolled up their sleeves and served with joy. As Centenary continues in its rich and illustrious tradition, we proudly move forward—doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God.
