*HYMN #251 “Christ Has Arisen, Alleluia” (1, 2, 5)

1 Christ has arisen, alleluia.

Rejoice and praise him, alleluia.

For our redeemer burst from the tomb,

even from death, dispelling its gloom.

Refrain:

Let us sing praise to him with endless joy.

Death's fearful sting he has come to destroy.

Our sin forgiving, alleluia!

Jesus is living, alleluia!

2 For three long days the grave did its worst

until its strength by God was dispersed.

He who gives life did death undergo,

and in its conquest his might did show. (Refrain)

5 Christ has arisen to set us free.

Alleluia, to him praises be.

Jesus is living! Let us all sing;

he reigns triumphant, heavenly King. (Refrain)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God,

we confess that we have strayed

from your paths of right relationship and peace,

and we have dishonored you,

ourselves, and your creation;

we repent of these hurtful ways.

Forgive us, we pray,

as we learn to forgive others,

and guide our feet into the way of peace. Amen.

WORDS OF FORGIVENESS

HYMN #243 “Be Not Afraid”

Be not afraid; sing out for joy!

Christ is risen, alleluia!

Be not afraid; sing out for joy!

Christ is risen, alleluia!

PASSING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord, be with you all. And also with you.

HYMN #188 “Jesus Loves Me”

1 Jesus loves me! This I know,

for the Bible tells me so.

Little ones to him belong.

They are weak, but he is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me!

The Bible tells me so.

2 Jesus loves me! This I know,

as he loved so long ago,

taking children on his knee, saying,

"Let them come to me."

Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me!

The Bible tells me so.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

THE FIRST READING Psalm 23 (CEB)

1 The Lord is my shepherd.

    I lack nothing.

2 He lets me rest in grassy meadows;

    he leads me to restful waters;

3         he keeps me alive.

He guides me in proper paths

    for the sake of his good name.

4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley,

    I fear no danger because you are with me.

Your rod and your staff—

    they protect me.

5 You set a table for me

    right in front of my enemies.

You bathe my head in oil;

    my cup is so full it spills over!

6 Yes, goodness and faithful love

    will pursue me all the days of my life,

    and I will live in the Lord’s house

    as long as I live.

This is the good news we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved. Thanks be to God.

THE GOSPEL READING John 10:22-30 (CEB)

22 The time came for the Festival of Dedication in Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple, walking in the covered porch named for Solomon. 24 The Jewish opposition circled around him and asked, “How long will you test our patience? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

25 Jesus answered, “I have told you, but you don’t believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you don’t believe because you don’t belong to my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice. I know them and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life. They will never die, and no one will snatch them from my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them from my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

The Gospel of the Lord.  Praise to you, O Christ.

PRAYER OF THE DAY †

Eternal God,

from whose gentle hands

none can snatch us away:

give us faith to believe

that we are known and loved

with a passion strong enough

to bring the whole world back to you;

through Jesus Christ, who is one with the source of life.

Amen.

*HYMN #187 “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” (1, 2, 4)

1 Savior, like a shepherd lead us;

much we need your tender care.

In your pleasant pastures feed us;

for our use your fold prepare.

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

you have bought us: we are yours.

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

you have bought us: we are yours.

2 We are yours: in love befriend us;

be the guardian of our way.

Keep your flock: from sin defend us;

seek us when we go astray.

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

hear your children when we pray.

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

hear your children when we pray.

4 Early let us seek your favor;

early let us do your will.

Blessed Lord and only Savior,

with your love our spirits fill.

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

you have loved us; love us still.

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

you have loved us; love us still.
