God Invites Us to Approach His Throne of Grace

Old Testament Reading: Psalm 5:1-8

Our Prayer of Meditation: (from The Valley of Vision)

Great God, in public and private, in sanctuary and home,

may my life be steeped in prayer,

filled with the spirit of grace and supplication,

each prayer perfumed with the incense of atoning blood.

Help me, defend me, until from praying ground

I pass to the realm of unceasing praise.

My need moves me, Your promises invite me,

Your Spirit calls me, I enter Your presence,

worshipping You with godly fear, awed by

Your majesty, greatness, and glory,

but encouraged by Your love

SILENT PRAYER & Private Confession of Sin

Assurance of Pardon

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16

God Dismisses Us with His Blessing

Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another,

for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God

so that at the proper time he may exalt you,

casting all your cares upon him, because he cares for you.

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around

like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering

are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace,

who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ,

will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
