David Downs joined the Fuller faculty in 2007 as assistant professor of New Testament studies. Prior to coming to Fuller, he was a teaching fellow at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey and a visiting assistant professor at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Downs’ recent research has focused on the theological significance of Paul’s collection among the Gentiles for the Jerusalem church, and he has written various articles and given scholarly presentations on matters relating to this topic. His dissertation, The Offering of the Gentiles: Paul’s Collection for Jerusalem in Its Chronological, Cultural, and Cultic Contexts, was published in 2008. Downs has also published articles in journals such as Catholic Biblical Quarterly, Horizons in Biblical Theology, Journal for the Study of the New Testament, and New Testament Studies. The courses Downs teaches at Fuller include New Testament 1: Gospels, New Testament 2: Acts-Revelation, 1 Corinthians, Pastoral Epistles, and Wealth and Poverty in the New Testament. Downs is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Catholic Biblical Association.
