• EPHESUS PRAYER LIST, MARCH 4, 2022

    Good Morning Ephesus Family,

We had two heart-felt corporate prayer gatherings Wednesday as the church came together to pray at 1:30pm and 6:00pm. Our prayer warriors roamed around the sanctuary praying for every person and seat that the Holy Spirit laid on their heart. It was a moving time of prayer. I hope you will join us next week.

Some of the prayer requests aren’t listed from that time because of potential sensitivities (You must be present to be privy to those). Also missing from this list are the tremendous praise reports and testimonies of how God is working and moving around us and the great fellowship that was had by everyone during our gathered prayer. (Again, you must be present to be privy to those).

If you have additional prayer concerns, feel free to post them in the comments below this information on either Faithlife or Facebook. You can also email your requests to prayer.ephesusnc@gmail.com. If you have updates on these requests please post or email those as well.

        1. EPHESUS PRAYER LIST FEBRUARY 10th, 2022

          Good Afternoon Ephesus Family,

We had two very active corporate prayer gatherings yesterday as the church came together to pray at 1:30pm and 6:00pm for a special time of prayer during our Forty Day Prayer Journey: Seeking God’s Will Together. Our prayer warriors roamed around the sanctuary praying for every person and seat that the Holy Spirit laid on their heart to pray for. It was a powerful time of prayer. I hope you will join us next week as we are seeking to be more than just a church that prays! We want to be a praying church!

              Good Afternoon Ephesus Family,

Allow me to thank all the encouraging souls who joined me at Mrs. Josephine Lamm’s house yesterday to welcome her back home from her Hip injury rehab. We even got to sing Happy Birthday to her since tomorrow she turns 99 years young!

We had two more wonderful corporate prayer gatherings yesterday as the church came together to pray at 1:30pm and 6:00pm for a special time of prayer during our Forty Day Prayer Journey: Seeking God’s Will Together

                The Power of Encouraging Hope!

Tom Brady is perhaps the greatest NFL quarterback of all time. After Sunday's loss to the Rams ended his season earlier than he'd have liked, media reporters started asking him about retirement. He basically said that, (and I am paraphrasing) he wasn't at a point to make any decision at the moment, his mind was still on the game they had just lost.

His answer reminded me of a great principle in life and ministry.

"Never make major life decisions when you are emotionally down and hurting."

The Christian life is like that too! We all have our ups and downs. It is very easy for us to look at the past few years and see more negatives than positives. That can negatively influence our decision making and affect the way we run our race.

Yet, s those with the hope of Christ, we are called to run our race with endurance (Heb. 12:1) to the very end. Coach Jim Valvano used to say, "Don't give up, don't ever give up!" That should be our mentality as believers too! Every day, we wake up and say to ourselves, "I can do this!"

If we love Christ, if we love His Church, and if we love our church family as deeply as we say we do, then we will never give up fighting for their honor. We must learn how to fight for the church, not with ourselves or with the church. One of the best ways to combat negativity is with positivity. The light always overcomes the darkness.

(Please don't misread any notion of the false theology of the power of positive thinking here, rather understand that the Bible does encourage us to be encouraging.)

Ephesus, as part of our Barnabas Initiative, let us seek to always exhibit a genuine, heart felt, positive outlook toward our present circumstances and our future development. We can encourage each other greatly by never giving up the fight for the honor of Christ.

God placed us at our current address with our current family of believers, so that together, WE can be an agent of encouragement and change in our lives and in the lives of those who live in our community and around this globe. We have a mission. We have the hope of Christ to empower us, to sustain us, and give us the endurance to run this race well and fulfill this mission.

Church, let's do this! May we stand strong and triumphant, joyfully encouraging the hope of Christ to flood our ranks with a great sense of optimism. Optimism that can breathe new life into even the most weary of souls. Let us become that kind of disciple! Let us become that kind of Church!

When our hearts are right before God in unison and hopeful expectation, then we will be prepared to hear God and make the right decisions to follow Him in His works and ways. Let's do this Church!

"If God is for us, who can be against us?"

                Romans 8:31

                1. Welcome to the Barnabas Initiative!

***Please Share this information with those in our family who are not online. Also, please go to Facebook and share our post with your friends and family members.****

                  Good Evening Ephesus Family,

We are starting a new initiative in our church family. May God allow us to firmly root and ground a new core value within the fabric of our church family.

                  A core value of encouragement!

May we commit together, not to only aspire to be encouragers, but to actually be known in our families, in our church, and in our community as those who are encouraging and uplifting, with the primary goal of our encouragement being to see people grow into Christ following disciple-makers.

We are calling this new initiative, the Barnabas Initiative. This initiative is based on a sermon preached by Pastor Wayne. Watch it here: https://fb.watch/aKPF5IXw9k/

We know that many among us believe that the day of Jesus’ second coming is drawing near. Many routinely say that Jesus is coming soon! If we really believe that, it is time for us to live like we believe it.

Hebrews: 10:24-25 reminds us, exhorts us, yes, it even encourgages us to:

“…consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Scripture is clear, we are called to be an encouraging people. As a church, we value a great many things, some that are good, right, and biblical, others that are more ritual, traditional, and familial. At Ephesus Baptist Church, we are desiring to become a church that values what God values above all.

The Gospel compels us to seek to proclaim Christ and His Kingdom with everyone who will listen, to call them to repentance, and to encourage them to follow Christ as His disciples by faith as Lord of their lives.

In order to be who God has called us to become, we believe it would be prudent for us to lean into our role as encouragers or ambassadors of reconciliation. In other words, we want to become the most encouraging and uplifting people that we can become under the guidance of Scripture and the Holy Spirit. Not just to be encouraging, but to be a community that values encouraging one another so that others will desire to be a part of our community and to know and be known by our wonderful Christ.

That is what the “Barnabas Initiative” is all about. We hope that you will commit to joining us in this initiative to become a son or daughter of encouragement, like Barnabas.

In the future, you will be seeing emails and social media posts with graphics like these. They are intended to be reminder prompts to help you lean into your gifts of encouragement. Our hope is that each of these will be thought and prayer prompts to get us growing into our identity as Children of the King of kings who calls us to love and encourage one another.

Ephesus Winter Weather Update: Services Cancelled Tomorrow

                    Good Afternoon Ephesus Family,

We all opened our windows this morning to a Winter Wonderland. God permitted snow to fall down upon our community and bought joy to many hearts as we look out and enjoy a rare commodity in these parts. Kids everywhere are rejoicing and playing. Job 37:6 reminds us of this reality, "For to the snow he says, 'Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour."

Snow also reminds us of our sin and our saving relationship with Jesus Christ! Isaiah 1:18 encourages us by saying, “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool."

Snow is a wonderful reminder of God's graciousness toward us. Snow events, like this one, also provide us an opportunity to slow down and "be still and know that He is God," Psalm 46:10.

Today and tomorrow will provide most of us with a time where things will slow down a bit. That includes our gathering together for worship. The Deacons and I agreed this morning to cancel our in-person gathering tomorrow for the second week in a row due to winter weather. The decision was made after reviewing the widespread nature of the snow storm and looking at the potential for dangerous refreezing of anything that melts overnight which would make for treacherous travel tomorrow morning.

In lieu of our In-Person worship, I will be doing a short Facebook Live Devotional tomorrow morning at 10:00am. I hope you can join us on there for about 15-20 minutes as we gather under God's word as God's people to celebrate what He is doing in our lives. We are going through a forty day prayer journey in which we are seeking God's will as we ask Him to reorder our private and public lives as His Church so that we can honor glorify Him more powerfully.

In light of my illness this week and the illnesses of several others in our congregation, I am going to ask that you continue to pray, but we are going to hit the pause button on our 40 day prayer journey and pick back up next Sunday. I have had neither the mental clarity, focus, nor energy over the past week to complete the devotionals for the next week. I am not fully recovered at this time either, but I am improving. So I promise to work hard on them in the week ahead and have them ready for you to continue our 40 day journey, now a 47 day journey of prayer next week. In the meantime, I will also try to send out shorter devotions and prayer points throughout the week via OneCallNow, Facebook, and Faithlife in order to make up for the lack of devotions for this week.

I hope you will all take time to be still this weekend and spend time with your Heavenly Father as you have opportunity. I look forward to being with you via Facebook tomorrow, but even more so regathering for prayer next Wednesday at 1:30pm and 6:00pm and regathering for Worship next Sunday! Until then know that the Deacons and I are praying for each of you and if you need anything don't hesitate to reach out to us. We love you all very dearly!

God bless you all this weekend.

                    Joyfully His,

                    Pastor Wayne

                    1. Updates from our Prayer Gatherings Yesterday! Requests for prayer included.

                      Good Afternoon Ephesus Family,

We had two intimate prayer gatherings yesterday as the church came together to pray at 1:30pm and 6:00pm for a special time of prayer during our Forty Day Prayer Journey: Seeking God’s Will Together. Allow me to thank a few servant hearts who rose to the occasion to facilitate our prayer gatherings yesterday since I was home trying to overcome an illness. Jill Olson and Sue Staton teamed up to co-facilitate our 1:30pm prayer gathering, while Dougald McLaurin led the 6:00pm evening prayer gathering.

Below are the requests for prayer that have been shared.

(Adapted from Gregory Reed Frizzell’s book, “Forty Days of Seeking God: Embracing a True Return to God.”p.7-8)

                      1. Pray for our Church family to have an immense deepening desire to seek to renew our First Love toward Jesus Christ.

                      2. Cry out for a deep brokenness, God-seeking reverential fear, and humble repentance too sweep our church family as a whole.

                      3. Plead with God’s powerful manifest presence for a restraining of evil, discord, disunity brought about by sinful hearts and a great misuse of the tongue, as well as for a mighty outpouring of His Holy Spirit power.

                      (Ex. 33:15; 1 Kings 8:11; Isa. 58:1-7; Isa. 59:19; Zech. 4:6; Acts 1:8, 2:1-2, 4:31; 1 Tim. 5:13)

                      4. Beg God for a Supernatural Love and Unity to sweep across our families, our church family, our sister churches, and our denomination.

                      6. Pray for our church leaders to be filled with a sense of joy in their work, boldness in their preaching, ferventness in their prayer life, spiritual power in their personal interactions, and a strong reliance on the truth of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

                      (Heb. 13:17; 1 Cor. 2:4; 1 Tim. 3:1-2; 2 Tim. 1:6-7)

                      7. Pray for God to transform the hearts of those who are continuing to walk in sin, pursuing personal preferences, living in the nostalgia of the past, unable to embrace a new movement of the Spirit.

                      (Mark 1:14-15, 2:17, 2:21-22; 1 Tim. 1:18-20; 2 Tim. 3:1-9)
