January 2019 FBC Newsletter
Happy New Year, Church! Are you like me, and having a hard time believing we are actually entering into the year, 2019? It seems time is passing us by so quickly! With that being said, I am so encouraged about the future of our church as we all continue to pursue Jesus both individually and collectively as a church body. I wanted to share a few thoughts with you as we begin 2019 together.
With the new year brings another opportunity for a fresh start. I am sure some of you have already committed to a few new year resolutions! Well, one of mine is to read the entire Bible within 2019. I would like to challenge you to do the same! I should reiterate, to read our Bible daily is not about checking a box on a to-do list but an opportunity to not only increase our knowledge of our Lord but also an opportunity to connect with Him each day. With that being said, I would like to recommend a couple or reading plans that you can use to guide your reading through the year:
I have been really enjoying this Bible App I came across a few weeks ago. I love that it not only breaks the reading up into 15 to 20 minute segments each day, but also that it provides short videos that explains why what you are about to read is important and how it fits into God's Redemption Story. Further, it encourages you to spend time in prayer with the Lord as you read through a Psalm each day. I have been greatly encouraged by it. The only caveat is that you need a smart phone or tablet to use it. If you have an apple or android smart phone/tablet you can download it here:
If you would prefer a traditional reading plan, there are several options here:
We are busy planning a number of outreach events for the Spring and Summer:
- We will be hosting a concert for the popular Blackwood Legacy Southern Gospel Quartet in May, and are planning on having a few movie viewings outside on the church lawn when the weather warms up!
- We are also in the middle of planning the particulars to have a teen missions team from Lehi Ut to come up and help us with service projects and do a massive outreach on the weekend of the War Bonnet Round Up Rodeo just a couple of blocks to the South of us!
- I would also like to encourage the men to attend a men's retreat that will be happening just outside of Park City, UT on the first weekend of March. I have attended this retreat for several years and it has always been a blessing and encouraging. More information can be found here.
Thanks for your heart to serve our King. We are so blessed to be a part of this church family!
Because of Christ,
