I'm Pro-life
  • A message by Adrian Rogers inspired me to preach this message today.
    In that message he said:
    Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive Introduction

Now we have people who say they are pro-choice—but that’s unfinished. Tell me what you choose. Now if they say, “I believe in the choice to kill a baby in the mother’s womb, then it doesn’t sound quite so good.” But they call themselves “pro-choice.” It is the choice to take an innocent life in the mother’s womb. It is really a choice between life and death, and God’s Word says clearly in Deuteronomy chapter 30 and verse 19 that we are to “choose life.”

    Today is Sanctity Sunday.
This morning we join many churches who are talking about Sanctity of Life.
Our main verse from the book of Isaiah tells us much about what happens on any day, everyday.

    What does it say?

    Isaiah 5:20 ESV
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
Some say you are free to choose.
But, I have news for everyone.
You are free not to choose the consequences of a bad choice.
Are you aware that thousands of lives will be ended tomorrow?
Nobody is standing up to defend them, to intervene, to stop what will happen to these unborn tomorrow.
About every 20 seconds, a baby will be murdered in the USA tomorrow.
    So, who is doing this?
First, there is the Supreme Court Justices dressed in robes who voted to do this.
Then there are government social planners, some get money for doing this, like Planned Parenthood.
Adrian Rogers compared Planned Parenthood to Orkin noting what Orkin does to bugs, Planned Parenthood does to babies.
Next are the doctors and abortion clinics, who are getting rich, killing babies.
After them are the parents who are willing to have an abortion done.
Lastly, there are people who say and do nothing about this; perhaps some in this room this morning.
January 22, 1973 was a day like Pearl Harbor or 9/11 in our country’s history.
In America it is okay to kill a baby.
Let me repeat that, it is okay to kill a baby in the USA.
#1 Requirement is that the baby is still living in the mother.
#2 Requirement is that the mother wants the baby killed.
#3 Requirement is a doctor willing to do the killing.
In America if you crush the egg of a bald eagle you can be fined $5000 and spend a year in jail, but you can get rich killing babies in the womb.
“Woe unto them that call good evil and evil good”
In America teenage girls get amoral sex education and even contraceptives using government money.
If, in spite of that, they still wind up pregnant, the child can visit a Planned Parenthood clinic.
Even without a parents knowledge, the child can have an abortion.
Schools won’t dare give an aspirin without parent consent, but they allow Planned Parenthood to give out their evil teachings.
    That is barbaric and crazy!
TRANS - Let’s look at three good reasons to be Pro-life.
By the way, I borrowed this outline and a whole lot from Adrian Rogers for this message. He was a wonderful preacher.

    What does it mean?

It is a Matter of Life

When a man and women get married and sleep with one another, and God blesses them with life, that starts in the womb.
A pro-choice person once wrote a newspaper an argument that epitomizes what these misguided too often believe.
    The argument went like this:
Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive I. It Is a Matter of Life

To believe that the ovum”—that is, the egg—“and sperm united are human life would be like believing that a vehicle was in existence after a nut and bolt were joined together at the beginning of an automobile assembly line.”

They say that an egg and sperm come together is like a nut and a bolt.
    This is the BIG flaw.
Building a car means adding more nuts and bolts, no steering wheel, no windshield.
When a sperm and egg come together, and God gives life, it’s a baby and nothing more need be added.
All the baby needs to grow is nutrition and water.
You don’t add anything to the human life.
What do the pro-choice people say?
They say it is a blob, not a human life.
Small as the baby is when God first gives life, it is still human life.
    What kind of life?
Is it animal life or plant life?
    It is human life!
It is not some appendage to the mother.
A pro-life women might want to argue it is her body.
But, it is not her body, it is a new life.
It may have a different blood type.
It does have its own DNA.
    It is life from God.
    Listen to the Psalmist:
    Psalm 139:13 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
God gave it life and put it together.
    Hear what Jeremiah says:
    Jeremiah 1:5 ESV
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
I was ordained as a grown man.
God ordained Jeremiah when he was in the womb.
You do not ordain a blob.
Do you recall John the Baptist leaping in the womb:
    Luke 1:41 ESV
And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
The word for “baby” in that verse, brephos and in the way Luke intended it be understood, means:
“an unborn child, embryo, fetus, a newborn child, an infant, a babe.” --Thayer’s Lexicon
Whether in the womb or outside the womb, the Bible does not distinguish between prenatal and postnatal life.
Adrian Rogers Sermon Archive I. It Is a Matter of Life

Bernard N. Nathanson, who was an obstetrician, gynecologist, once an assistant professor at Cornell University Medical School, a leader in the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws—that is, he was opposed to laws that proscribe abortion (not prescribe, but proscribe—that keep us from having abortions)—and he was the director of the first and largest abortion clinic in the Western world. Dr. Nathanson—here is what happened to him: he had his eyes opened. He suddenly changed his tune after his clinic had performed sixty thousand abortions in eighteen months—sixty thousand! He resigned, and he lamented. Here is what Dr. Nathanson said: “I am deeply troubled by my own increasing certainty that I had in fact presided over sixty thousand deaths.” Think of it. Doctors and nurses told Dr. Nathanson of nightmares and depressions that they were experiencing and personality changes among them and other personnel at the clinic because of the taking of innocent life.

Listen again to the words in this Proverb:
    Proverbs 6:16–17 ESV
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
The Lord hates “shedding innocent blood.”
There is none more innocent than the unborn baby.
No wonder Dr. Nathanson was so troubled.
He was called to safe life, not end it.

It is a Matter of Love

    I am pro-life because I am pro-love.
    You know the Golden Rule?
    Matthew 7:12 ESV
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Jesus took the OT and put it into this one sentence.
The question to the mother considering an abortion then becomes, “Would you want to be put to death?”
Mother, “Would you like to be dismembered?”
Doctor, “Would you want to be placed in a cell and have acid poured on you, forced into your lungs and stomach and be left to convulse for hours until dead?
Have you heard about the partial birth abortion?
They call it, “intact dilation and extraction.”
    Sound nice?
These abortions partially deliver a baby, up to five months, and turn it so that it comes out breach.
That is the bring the feet out first and spin it on its stomach.
The feet, hips, and body are out.
They stop at the neck leaving it in the birth canal along with the head.
Then, the doctor stabs the baby with a blunt pair of scissors at the base of the skull giving access to the brain.
The brain is sucked out and the head collapses.
The baby dies and the body is removed.
1995 and 1997 President Clinton vetoed laws to end this practice.
2003, the law finally passed and in 2007 it was upheld by the Supreme Court.
    Today, it is illegal PTL.
The battle to win this took took too many years.
The Bible tells us of a generation who are heartless.
    Romans 1:31 ESV
    foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
“Heartless” in the original language means:
Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains 25.42 ἄστοργος, ον

ἄστοργος, ον: pertaining to a lack of love or affection for close associates or family—‘without normal human affection, without love for others.’

    Without affection for…family.
The maternal instinct is to protect the baby.
Most pregnant women start taking prenatal vitamins and become extra careful not to hurt the unborn baby in their womb.
If the smoke or drink, even most of them put an end to those bad habits because the instinct to take care of the baby is even stronger than their addiction.
The basic instinct is to take care of their baby.
In the last days, however, comes sexual perversion and heartlessness for the unborn.
The abortion business is mostly built on selfishness.
Pro-life people tell us the poor can afford a baby.
Yet, 53% of people getting abortions don’t have other children.
    Most are in their twenties.
Most are white and middle and upper class.
Over a third of mothers that go for abortions go back for a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Many conceive through illicit sex or are hookers that don’t want their profession interrupted.
Many just don’t want to bothered with a child.
The ultimate selfishness is the business itself that pays really good.
    Abortionists life lavish lives.
They kill for hire building homes on the blood of babies.
    They should take heed:
    Deuteronomy 27:25 ESV
“ ‘Cursed be anyone who takes a bribe to shed innocent blood.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
The cures of God is on those people.
And, I don’t want to have to say it anymore than you, but the Bible is clear and we must speak out for the unborn.
    Isaiah 58:1 ESV
“Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins.
We can’t expect God to bless our nation when we continue to kill the innocent.

It is a Matter of Logic

    I am pro-life because I am pro-love and because I am pro-logic.
The illogical reasons pro-choice people have, like “Life begins at breathing” sound silly to me.
I think that was Bill Clinton’s go to line.
The baby is alive and oxygen come through the umbilical cord.
Some say, “Abortion is sometimes necessary to save the mother’s life.”
May be true in rare cases.
I would never attack and kill an unborn child. --Dr. Jerome Lejeune said
Listen to what the world famous geneticist Dr. Jerome Lejeune said:
“I would do everything I could to save the life of the mother, but I would never attack and kill an unborn child. I don’t set out to kill a child. I may set out to save the life of a mother, and if in the process the child dies, tragic. But I would never attack and kill an unborn child.”
Another person says, “What about in the case of rape or incest?”
Ethel Waters was singer with the Billy Graham crusades and is now in heaven.
She was born out of a pregnancy that was due to rape.
Ruth, ancestress of Jesus, was born out of an incestuous relationship.
I once had a friend, an unwed mother.
Her baby boy was born out of rape.
He’d tell people that God was his father.
In these sort of cases, who can say, “They should have been aborted.”
You can’t play God in these cases.
If a baby is in its crib and one month old, and born a victim of rape, would you kill a one-month-old baby?
How about if it is one month prior to being born?
Only 1/10 of 1% of babies are aborted because of rape.
Not only is it stupid, it does not hold water.
Rape is horrible, a hateful crime.
But, the baby didn’t commit the crime.
Someone says, “Well there is danger of deformity.”
    That may be true.
Are we going to eliminate people we feel are defective or deformed?
If we eliminate the deformed in the womb, will be eliminate the deformed after birth?
    Where do we stop?
Do you keep a baby for a while and decide whether or not to keep it?
Someone will say, “Well, a woman’s body is hers to do with as she wishes. She has freedom of choice.”
She does not, in my opinion, nor in God’s sight, to kill another person, even if it is living inside of her body.
I can’t kill an unwanted guest in my home.
They may cause me some inconvenience, but I don’t have the right to kill them.
No mother has the right to kill her children.
Someone says, “Well, I believe I have the right over my own body.”
    No, you she does not.
Do you have the right to smoke crack cocaine.
Tell the police and see how that works out.
A prostitute gets arrested and says, “Well it’s my own body.”
No, there is a law against that sort of behavior.
You don’t have control over your own body altogether.
If I had a knife and cut of a finger, by the time I got to the third one, I hope you would stop me.
What if I were to say, “It’s my body, leave me alone.”
Get this, the unborn are not the mother’s body.
Even if it were, she does not have complete control over her body.
I’ve only named a few, but in every argument for pro-choice, I see everyone of them as wicked.

What do we do with this?

    Proverbs 29:18 ESV
Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
    1. We need to be informed.
    2. We need to vote for life.
    3. We need to teach sexuality morality at home and in the church.
    4. We need to have compassion on the unwed mother.
    Isaiah 58:1 ESV
“Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins.
    5. We need to speak out clearly.
    6. We need to pray that God will give us time to repent.
    7. We need to teach a preach Jesus Christ.
