David plans to build the House of God (temple), but God plans to build the House of David’s dynasty instead…a line of kings that will ultimately lead to Jesus, the King whose throne lasts forever.

What we are reading comes from one of the most important chunks of Scripture of all of the Old Testament writings

- known as the Davidic Covenant, one of the major covenants in the Bible alongside the covenants with Noah, Abraham, and Moses.

This Old Covenant/Testament text is a 1,000 year old bridge that crosses into the New Covenant/Testament.

The House of David — 2 Samuel 7

1. David’s Desire to Honor God - Read 2 Samuel 7:1–3

  1. What does David’s concern about the ark reveal about his heart toward God?

  3. What are some ways people today try to honor God with good intentions that may not actually be what God wants?
