5 Things to Know this Week @ First Church
1 Mission Trip Sunday
Our middle school youth share their experience of summer mission in Del Norte this Sunday, August 14. Please make this a priority. Show up and support our youth on this very special Sunday.
Please note: There will be a brief meeting for parents of youth (grades 6-12) after worship. You’ll get dates for your calendar, and a chance to fill out the Parent Permission form now so it can go on file for the school year.
2 What happens in Samaria stays in Samaria
Join us for a very special worship service on Sunday, August 21, as we visit Samaria. Why Samaria? In Clarence Jordan’s Cotton Patch Gospel, the region of Samaria is likened to Las Vegas, and you know the old saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”? In Samaria, Jesus breaks the rules, and we’ll find out why together.
3 Update on Fan Coil Unit installation
The church is a loud mess, and that’s good news as contractors continue their work to install the new fan coil units throughout the Fellowship Hall, classrooms, and restrooms. We are very grateful for the generosity of Ann and Dave Kuebbeler whose generosity made this project possible.
4 Early Settlers Day Outreach
We are looking for 4-6 people who would be available along the Early Settlers Day Parade route to hand out invitations to the church. The parade happens on Saturday, September 10, at 10, so you’d want to be available from about 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Please see Pastor MJ if you are available!
5 A Christian Conversation on Abortion
Thanks to everyone who came out to be a part of our discussion on Sunday afternoon. We all can agree that we must honor the lives of both mother and child, and we respected that we had different beliefs about what that meant and how to accomplish it. The conversation definitely fulfilled the apostle Paul’s instruction to let our speech be “gracious, seasoned with salt” (Colossians 4:6).
