First Church Alert
5 Things to Know this Week @ First Church
1 What happens in Samaria stays in Samaria
Join us for a very special worship service on Sunday, August 21, as we visit the ancient land of Samaria as we find it in the gospels. Why Samaria? In Clarence Jordan’s Cotton Patch Gospel, the region of Samaria is likened to Las Vegas, and you know the old saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”? In Samaria, Jesus breaks the rules, and we’ll find out why together.
Neighborhood worship, youth group lock in, Operation Christmas Child, Tables Sunday, ARK, outreach..there’s lots happening at the church. Please stay up to date by reading this e-blast every week, skimming the bulletin on Sunday morning, and taking a look at the fall newsletter which you’ll be receiving next week in your home mailboxes.
3 ELEVATE High School Youth Group Lock in
High school youth (gr. 9-12) are invited to our kick-off lock-in at 10 p.m. Friday, August 26 (after the Burlington game). You’ll head home at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning after a night of fun and fellowship. (Any insomniac adults who can help can reach out to Angel or Elisabeth.)
4 Early Settlers Day Outreach
We are looking for 4-6 people who would be available along the Early Settlers Day Parade route to hand out invitations to the church. The parade happens on Saturday, September 10, at 10, so you’d want to be available from about 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Please see Pastor MJ if you are available!
5 What happened to the gazebo?
With much regret, we have abandoned the installation of the gazebo at the south end of the playground. The sprinkler system simply generates too much mud, and the roots of the trees make pouring a concrete pad impossible. We haven’t given up on the gazebo, but its installation is on hold for now.
