5 Things to Know this Week @ First Church

1 Celebration Time

Join us this Sunday, January 29, in worship, as Jesus A to Z continues with “P is for (the Sermon on) the Plain.”  We’ll be welcoming Nakia Fisher and Angel Saucedo formally into the church family. Stay and celebrate our ministries after worship when we gather for our annual meeting. This year, we’ll be downstairs after worship for food and fellowship, along with updates from our ministry teams.  You’ll also affirm the pastor’s terms of call (i.e. salary package) for 2023 and elect two new elders.  The elder-nominees this year are Sarah Petramala and Joey Gacnik.

2 Communion & ARK:  Some Changes

Our Worship, Children’s, and Fellowship Teams have come together to create a new plan of discipleship & worship in 2023.  Beginning in February, we’ll celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of every month, with the children in worship with us. After worship on these communion Sundays, we’ll gather together as a church family for fellowship and a fun intergenerational event that ties into the lessons the ARK Kidz are learning.  We hope this new schedule will help us grow together as a church family and support our children in their spiritual development.

3 Junction Kids Update

We're excited to announce some of our committed teachers for this first session of Junction Kids!  Aricka Hulsey will be our storyteller, Liz Vazquez is cooking, Terry Miller will teach music, Karen Gacnik heads up drama and AuntyB herself, Bethany Bender, will teach art. Yea God! We’re still looking for leaders for the video, games, and science stations. Please register at https://forms.gle/X1oYFzasEW9n6bhx5, or you can stop by the church, or register when you bring your child (or children) for the first time. For more information or to volunteer, contact Pastor MJ directly at pastor@lajuntapres.org or 719-469-7717.

4 Help Wanted:  Clerk of Session

We are in search of a new Clerk of Session.  A Clerk is an ordained elder who attends meetings, takes notes, prepares minutes, and serves as correspondent to the presbytery. The Clerk has a voice but no vote on the Session while serving. If you are eligible, interested, and available, please see Karen Gacnik or Pastor MJ as soon as possible!

5  Dementia Friendly Coffee Talk

Caregivers of loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia are invited to gather together on Sunday, February 12, at 2 p.m. in the Cranson Room, to share experiences and support each other in your various situations.  Please spread the word throughout the community.

And prayers…

For Cathy Lease as she prepares for a bone marrow transplant in February.
