First Church Alert
5 Things to Know this Week @ First Church
1 Look Who’s Talking
This week, in worship, we’ll celebrate a new tool for sharing our faith called the Spiritual Conversation Curve. Katy Jones and Pastor MJ attended a workshop on it at our ECO national gathering in January, and it’s fabulous. Worship with us at 9 or 11 a.m. or online at our YouTube channel. We’re excited to share this with you!
Also this week at 9 a.m., we gift our 3rd graders with their new Bibles. What a joy to share such a legacy of faith.
2 God Has a Plan
“God Has a Plan” is the new God’s House and God’s House @ Home unit beginning this week, September 13. Kids will learn that they can trust God, “For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does” (Psalm 33:4). We’re in person, safely distanced, during the 9 a.m. service or online at https://firstchurchlajunta.org/gods-house.
3 Random Acts of Kindness
The Compassion Team is initiating something new—the Random Acts of Kindness ministry. We want to bless people in the church and community with a message of gratitude and encouragement for the work they are doing and sacrifices they are making.
What are your ideas? Grab a member of the Compassion Team (Jeanne, Mary, Becci, Cathy, Ruth, Melanie, or Denise), contact the Church Office, or submit a suggestion card in worship.
4 Psalms: Prayers of the Heart
Don Klinkerman and Pastor MJ are co-leading a new Bible study, “Psalms: Prayers of the Heart,” a study by Eugene Peterson, beginning next week on Tuesday, September 15, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Grab a copy of the book from the display in the Church Foyer and sign up with your email address so we can send you the Zoom invitation. Classes will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel, so you can catch up should you miss a study.
Thanks to your generous support of the Deacons Fund, we were able to assist in the purchase of backpacks for students at the La Junta Jr/Sr. High School. Every student there received a Chromebook to use this year during hybrid learning, so the backpacks are extra-necessary.
