Ephesians 1:7-10ESV

#33 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,

In light inaccessible hid from our eyes.

Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,

Almighty, victorious--Thy great Name we praise.

2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,

Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;

Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above

Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

3 To all, life Thou givest - to both great and small;

In all life Thou livest - the true life of all.

Thy wisdom so boundless, Thy mercy so free,

Eternal Thy goodness for naught changeth Thee.

4 Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,

Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;

All praise we would render--O help us to see

'Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!

#1029 Whate’er My God Ordains is Right

1 Whate’er my God ordains is right;

Holy His will abideth;

I will be still, whate’er He doth,

And follow where He guideth.

He is my God;

Though dark my road,

He holds me that I shall not fall;

Wherefore to Him I leave it all.

2 Whate’er my God ordains is right;

He never will deceive me;

He leads me by the proper path;

I know He will not leave me,

And take, content,

What He hath sent;

His hand can turn my griefs away,

And patiently I wait His day.

3 Whate’er my God ordains is right;

Here shall my stand be taken;

Though sorrow, need, or death be mine,

Yet am I not forsaken;

My Father’s care

Is round me there;

He holds me that I shall not fall,

And so to Him I leave it all. Amen.

#157 The Love of God

1 The love of God is greater far

Than tongue or pen can ever tell;

It goes beyond the highest star,

And reaches to the lowest hell;

The guilty pair, bowed down with care,

God gave His Son to win;

His erring child He reconciled,

And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:

O love of God, how rich and pure!

How measureless and strong!

It shall forevermore endure —

The saints' and angels' song!

2 When years of time shall pass away

And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,

When men who here refuse to pray,

On rocks and hills and mountains call,

God's love so sure shall still endure,

All measureless and strong;

Redeeming grace to Adam's race —

The saints' and angels' song. [Refrain]

3 Could we with ink the ocean fill

And were the skies of parchment made,

Were every stalk on earth a quill

And every man a scribe by trade,

To write the love of God above

Would drain the ocean dry;

Nor could the scroll contain the whole,

Tho' stretched from sky to sky. [Refrain]

  #324 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

1 When I survey the wondrous cross

On which the Prince of Glory died,

My richest gain I count but loss,

And pour contempt on all my pride.

2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ, my God.

All the vain things that charm me most,

I sacrifice them to His blood.

3 See from His head, His hands, His feet,

Sorrow and love flow mingled down!

Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,

Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

4 Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were a present far too small.

Love so amazing, so divine,

Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Lord Jesus,

We sin – grant that we never cease grieving because of it, that we are never content with ourselves. Help us never think we can reach a point of perfection. Kill our envy, command our tongues, trample our selves down. Give us grace to be holy, kind, gentle, pure, peaceable, to live for You and not for ourselves. Transform us into Your likeness and help us to live entirely for Your glory. Deliver us from attachment to unclean things, wrong associations, evil passions, the sweetness of sin as well as its wounds. And then, fill our mouths with songs of praise and give us great joy in Your salvation. Amen.
