Call to Worship
Let us set aside all distractions and enter this time of worship.
May our hearts and minds receive God’s word to us this day.
Trusting in the Spirit to meet us,
Let us gather to worship God!
Opening Hymn #347 Forgive Our Sins as We Forgive
Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, we live in the tension of what we are called to be and our lived reality. We often fall short of the good we intend. Our growth in Christ’s likeness is painfully slow at best. Forgive us, we pray. Offer us your peace that passes all understanding and help us to begin anew. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Gloria Patri
Children's Sermon
Children are invited to go to Children’s Worship with our Children’s Worship Leader. Children will return to their parents during the final hymn.
Litany of Beginnings
The congregation is invited to respond to individual statements of gratitude with with the words, “We give you thanks, O God.”
Interim Pastor: With God's help, I make this covenant with you: I pledge to be a partner with you in sharing the good news, working with you in the shared tasks of our callings, and assisting you in this time of transition. I pledge to you that I will be a leader among you, helping you to shape a vision for the future. I promise to be a pastor for you, standing with you in joy and difficulty.
Presbytery Moderator: Speaking on behalf of Shenandoah Presbytery, we promise to support you and this congregation with prayer, to encourage you as we share in the life and work of the presbytery, and to welcome you as you begin your work in Front Royal as pastor, leader, and partner.
Clerk of Session: We are aware that this relationship is temporary. We also know that it is an important time for our church. Therefore, we covenant with one another and before God to be faithful to our calling as Christ's people.
Unison: Before Almighty God, we promise to relate to one another with love, respect, and honesty; and to remember the value of real laughter, genuine tears, labor, prayers, and the hard work of addressing difficult issues. Knowing this, we covenant to live together as God's people, safe in God's grace.
Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.
