Lighting of the Advent Candle                              A.J. Hall & Zach Logan

Sung Response O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel,

and ransom captive Israel,

that mourns in lonely exile here

until the Son of God appear.

Refrain:

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

shall come to thee, O Israel.

Call to Worship (Isaiah 40:28-31)

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless.

Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted;

but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

With this great hope, let us worship the Lord.

Opening Hymn #8 Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Prince of Peace, the wars and rumors of wars betray our addiction to violence, our destructive and dehumanizing ways. We deserve your judgement and condemnation. Yet, you remain faithful, a steadfast source of peace in the midst of our warring madness. Holy God, turn us from evil. Return us to Christ and his path of peace. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Hear the good news! Through Christ we have forgiveness and new hope.

He comes to break the power of sin and set us free again. Alleluia! Amen.

Sung Response Angels We Have Heard on High (Refrain Only)

Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Sermon for Faith Builders

Children are invited to go to Children’s Worship with our Children’s Worship Leader, Ms. Marisa. Children will return to their parents during the final hymn.

Prayers of the People & Lord's Prayer

Call to Offering

Offertory  Comfort, Comfort Ye My People

Genevan Psalter/Robert Lau

Sung Response #36 In the Bleak Midwinter vs. 4

What can I give Him, Poor as I am?

If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;

If I were a wiseman, I would do my part;

Yet what I can I give Him: Give my heart.

Prayer of Dedication

Hymn O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

O come, thou Root of Jesse, free... ...thine own from Satan‘s tyranny; from depths of hell thy people save and give them victory o’er the grave. Refrain: Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, thou Key of David, come and open wide our heavenly home; make safe the way that leads on high, and close the path to misery. Refrain: Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Anthem E'en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come            Paul Manz

Peace be to you and grace from Him

Who freed us from our sins,

Who loved us all and shed His blood

That we might saved be.

Sing Holy, Holy to our Lord,

The Lord, Almighty God,

Who was and is and is to come;

Sing Holy, Holy, Lord!

Rejoice in heaven, all ye that dwell therein,

Rejoice on earth, ye saints below,

For Christ is coming, is coming soon,

For Christ is coming soon!

E'en so, Lord Jesus, quickly come,

And night shall be no more;

They need no light nor lamp nor sun,

For Christ will be their All!

Scripture Reading: Luke 21:25-36

Sermon What Are We Waiting For?

Apostles’ Creed (Traditional)- Page 14 in Blue Hymnal

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
