Pastor's Pen

We are entering into springtime and many

things will vie for our time and attention. We

usually see a drop-off on the Sunday of the

Memorial Day weekend. But this year, we are

going to fight fire with fire. We are going to

give our people an option to stay home that

Sunday and participate in a church picnic. We

did this several years ago and had a crowd of

302 that Sunday, when we were averaging

about 200.

So, we thought we would try doing that again

this year. We will designate that Sunday to be a

God & Country Day. Weʼll have a church picnic

after the AM services: grilling hamburgers and

hot dogs with all the fixings and desserts that

our members can provide.

We will have live music on the parking lot,

along with a lot of fun things for the kids:

bouncy castle, games, snow-cones, etc. We can

set up a volleyball net, a horse-shoe pit, and all

the things that usually come with a picnic.

So, mark your calendar and make plans to be

a part of this special time with your church

family. We will make this a Friend Day, so invite

your friends and neighbors to come join us.

[And pray that it doesnʼt rain!]

From the Youth Pastor

May is the month in which we celebrate Motherʼs

Day. I really think this should be the entire month

not just the second Sunday in May. Being a mother

is a crucial role that God chooses to bestow on

many women. We learned a few months ago in

Titus 2:4-5 that christian mothers should love their

children so that Christ and the gospel wonʼt be

dishonored. This is not a small thing. I have some

of your children in my classes... I know you have a

tough job. I know my mom had a tough job too.

The bible doesnʼt say that all women will be

mothers, but it does say that the women God

determines to be mothers, should do their job

sincerely. Mothers play an essential role in the life

of a child and motherhood should never be seen as

a burden or a sentence. Children are a blessing,

motherhood is a blessing, not a burden.

Paul was reminded of Timothyʼs faith that “first

dwelt” in his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice.

They played a pivotal role in Timothyʼs life, just as

all mothers play in the lives of their children. This

is your primary job, to love your children like God

loves us and show them through scripture.

The world we live in is confused. We have

supremely educated people who canʼt even define

what a woman is. If they canʼt define “woman”,

how on earth will they be able to tell someone how

to be a proper mother? I thank God I had a mother

who showed me that I was loved, even when I made

it hard for her to love me. She showed me love

through discipline and by making my favorite

dinner, by hugging me or spanking me, she knew

what I needed.

Mothers, give your children what they need, not

just what they want. Show them who Jesus is and

leave them a legacy of faith like Eunice did

Timothy.
