Pastor's Pen
This Sunday, Aug. 7th, we celebrate 49 years
of ministry as a church. I want to encourage all of
our members and friends to make a special
effort to be with us this Sunday morning, as we
thank God for His blessings upon this church. We
will have a fried chicken dinner after the morning
services. Letʼs make this a Friend Day and invite
our friends and neighbors to come join us.

In last monthʼs newsletter, I shared with you
that I have been diagnosed with cancer (Multiple
Myeloma) and have been taking chemotherapy
once a week. So far, I have been able to tolerate
the drugs and carry on with my pastoral duties.
This cancer is very treatable and has a high success
rate. I do appreciate all the prayers that have been
offered on behalf of Betty and me. I am trusting in
our Lord to see us through this difficult time.

August is our Faith Promise Missions emphasis
month. Weʼll make FPM cards available for those
who will pledge to give a certain amount each
month to missions for the coming year. Pray that
God will help you determine how much He will
enable you to give to missions.
From The Youth Pastor
We made it back from camp last
Friday and we had a great time.
The weather was hot, as usual and
there were stickers...everywhere,
but we were surrounded by Godʼs
creation and his word throughout
the week.
Again, we had a great group of
sponsors and kids for the most part.
I was glad to see everyone listening
and participating in worship and
bible study. Everyone seemed to be
focused and engaged.
On the last day, we talked about
Self-love, Self-care, Self-esteem, etc.
Our society is filled with people who
are putting the love of themselves at
the top of their priority list. The Bible
never tells us to love ourselves, it is
assumed. “Love your neighbor as
yourself” is not a command to love
yourself, you already do that. It is a
command to love them as much as
you love yourself. The issue we have
today is that we love ourselves too
much. The Bible actually tells us that
we should deny ourselves. In Luke
9:23-24 Jesus says: “If any man will
come after me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross daily, and
follow me. For whosoever will save
his life shall lose it: but whosoever
will lose his life for my sake, the
same shall save it.” The love of self
will keep you from following Christ.
Lay down your pride and selfishness
and follow him. - Bro. Tim
