FEBRUARY 2023
Pastor's Pen
We were doing great in January with
attendance, averaging 265 in the Morning
Worship, with a high of 290, in the first 4
Sundays. But then last Sunday, we bottomed
out. We had a lot of sickness among our church
family and the cold weather may have affected
some. Hopefully, everyone will get well this
week and we can rebound this Sunday.
One thing that ought to help is that we
are having our annual Menʼs Chili Cook-Off
this Sunday after the morning services. We
will have judges sampling all the chili and
awarding prizes to the top 3 vote-getters. So,
men, bring that great chili that you like to
brag about and join in. We will also need
people to bring side dishes that go with chili
and desserts. The Adult 2 & 3 classes are the
hosts for this event.

On February 19th, I plan to start a new
seven sermon series on the Seven Sayings of
Christ from the cross. I will bring a separate
sermon on each saying and it will go
through March and take us up to Easter
Sunday, April 9th.
I also want to encourage one and all to
join us in our Adult Bible Class on Wednesday
nights at 7:00PM for a character study
of Joseph in the book of Genesis. He is seen
as a type of Christ, and we will note the
similarities in their lives as we go along.
From The Youth Pastor
February is here, and as I look
across the frozen landscape, I canʼt
help but think of the coldness of
manʼs heart. I know this is a month
when we are meant to think of all
things related to Love. To follow our
heart and tell that special someone
how we feel. But, our hearts are
desperately wicked and deceitful.
Iʼm not trying to be a Debbie
downer, I just think we need to understand
that mankind has a propensity
to sin and without Godʼs intervention
we will continue in that sin. We
desire and donʼt have, so we murder,
we covet and cannot obtain, so we
fight. We ask for things and donʼt get
them because we ask wrongly,
selfishly. We give only because we
want something in return. We donʼt
know what love is without Christʼs
example. We wonʼt know what love
really is until we fully surrender to
Him. We need to cleanse our hands
and purify our hearts. We need to
be single-minded. We need to mourn
over our sin and humble ourselves
before a Holy and righteous God.
The kind of love described in 1
Corinthians 13 and 1 John 4 only
comes from God. It canʼt be faked or
manufactured. It will only come from
a heart that is no longer focused on
self, but solely focused on Christ.
In this season of love, think about
the love that God has shown you
through the sacrifice of his only son
an a cruel cross. “In this is love, not
that we have loved God but that he
loved us and sent his Son to be the
propitiation for our sins” 1 John 4:10

Memory Verse
“Wherefore, seeing we also are
compassed about with so great a
cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside
every weight, and the sin which doth
so easily beset us, and let us run with
patience the race that is set before
us.”
- Hebrews 12:1
