Traces of Grace
A Message from Pastor Scott
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Eagles football is back tonight! It may just be some pre-season action, but I'm still excited to see our team don the midnight green again (even if I wish it was back to Kelly Green). As the Eagles have been in training camp the past couple weeks, my oldest son, Tim, has started training for his first season playing football.
Having a son training has caused me to look at football a bit differently than I have before. I know the professional athletes work hard to be the best they can be, but I've been watching these 11 & 12 year old boys working on the fundamentals and it has made me realize just how many countless hours of training professional athletes put in to get where they are.
The Apostle Paul used the athletes of his day as an analogy for our Christian life. In First Corinthians, he said, "Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize." (1 Corinthians 9:24-25, NLT)
As much as I love football and I'm excited for the Eagles season, I want to take my Christian training even more seriously. What's one spiritual practice (fasting, studying, giving, silence, service, confession, etc) you could add to your training this football season so your spiritual fitness can rise to the next level? Our spiritual life has eternal implications, for us and for others. Let's increase our training for the sake of what Christ wants to do in the world through us.

If anyone has an abundance in their gardens that you'd like to share with our church family, please know that there is a basket in our church front entrance area for you to drop off your harvest! Presently, the basket is filled with goodies for you to take! If you bring some of your harvest with you on Sunday mornings, before our service begins, you may leave it, in or next to, the basket. It will be there for all to have access to, and it will be a "first-come, first-serve" basis. Thanking you in advance for your generosity!
