Jack MacNamara asks for prayer for his daughter's sister-in-law Belinda. Belinda is a very high-risk patient whose blood pressure is threatening to cancel sinus surgery she has planned for Monday.
Thought for Today
Because Pastor Sam is on vacation, the following Thought for Today is reprinted from April 24.
This morning as I was reading scripture, this passage from Lamentations came back a second day in a row. So I leaned in and thought a little deeper about what was going on. I decided to really pause and listen. The scripture says...
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him.” Lamentation 3:21-24
When we look at this scripture it is loaded with descriptive words that paint a brighter future. The words/phrases that catch my attention today are: hope, Lord’s great love, not consumed, compassion, new, great, faithfulness, the Lord, and wait. The words used here are very well chosen in a critical time in Jerusalem’s history. The prophet Jeremiah was a regular guy also was dealing with a nation under siege. In this book he even recounts some physical struggles in chapter 3 that cause him to feel abandoned by God. I love how Max Lucado puts it… “at this time his body ached. His heart was sick. His faith was puny. He realizes how fast he was shrinking so he shifted his gaze.”
Because of the Lord’s Great Love... His Mercies are new every morning
Great is your faithfulness, you are MY portion
The good news is… “The storm didn’t cease, but his discouragement did”
In light of all that is happening in our lives today may we focus on this passage with a pause… so that when we too might be feeling discouraged in our journey, the Lord can shift our gaze. Maybe He'll even use us to help someone else during these challenging days.
