Welcome

We welcome you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We hope you will be encouraged and edified, having heard Biblical

truth in love.

Great Basin RP is a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of

North America, one of the oldest denominations in the United States.

We are committed to the doctrines of Scripture and the formation of

loving community as a necessary fruit of the Gospel.

In light of the above, we believe that the most comprehensive and accurate summary of biblical teaching is found in the Westminster Confession of Faith, together with the Westminster Larger and

Shorter Catechisms. These documents were completed in 1647 as a summary of Christian belief and practice, with the desired intention of helping Christ’s church become unified in doctrine, government, and worship (John 17:11). In addition to the Westminster Standards, we also maintain the Testimony of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of

North America, which is our denomination’s own continuing and contemporary application of the Word of God to our current culture and context.

A New Exodus for Wearisome Worshippers (Isaiah 43:14-26)

Introduction/Review

Theme: God is committed to reviving His people from their spiritual weariness; therefore we are to repent of our man-centered motives in worship, and turn to God as He is offered to us in the grace of the Gospel.

Liberation from Bondage through a New Exodus (Vs 14-21)

The Historical Significance of the Exodus

Israel’s ongoing need for Exodus revealed an internal problem

The Promise of a New Exodus (Vs 16-21)

Application: We need to recognize that the our bondage is primarily due to the internal forces of sin, and not external circumstances.

The Bondage of Wearisome Worship (Vs 22-24)

Israel turned worship into a burdensome curse (Vs 22)

Israel turned worship into a legalistic, transaction affair (Vs 24)

Israel missed the Grace being offered in their Worship (Vs 23-24; 29:13)

Application: We need to be freed from the bondage of approaching worship with man-centered, self-centered motives

The Renewing Power of God’s Grace (Vs 25-26a)

The Provision of Atonement (Vs 25)

The Grace of God leads to Repentance and Worship (Rom 2:4)

The Call to Repent and Put God First in Our Worship (Vs 26a)

Application: We need to repent of our man-centered motives in worship, and turn to God as He is offered to us in the grace of the Gospel.

This Week’s Confessional Meditation

8.5. It is in the office of Mediator that Christ fulfills and applies the Covenant of Grace, and in doing so, accomplishes the Covenant of Works.

Heb. 1:3; Heb. 2:5-9; Col. 1:16-20; Rev. 21:24-27.

6. We reject the teaching that all men already are in Christ and have been redeemed by Him, whether they realize it or not.

7. Christ did not lay down His life to atone for the sins of all mankind, nor for an indefinite number of sinners. His sacrifice was indeed sufficient to save the whole world, had it been designed to do so; but in the purpose of God and in the undertaking of Christ, it was determined that He should make atonement for those who were elected in Him to everlasting life; these only He represented, and these only shall be saved through His redemption. This truth is commonly called limited atonement or particular redemption. John 10:14-15, 25-30; John 3:16; Acts 20:28; Rev. 5:9; John 17:9-10.

8. The reprobate, because of their connection with God’s elect who live among them, are partakers of some benefits which flow from Christ’s death; divine judgments are sometimes averted for the sake of the saints; the peace and prosperity of nations are furthered by the providence of God over His people; benevolence and temperance are promoted by the Church’s teaching and influence; and the world is continued under its present administration until all the elect are brought to salvation.

Isa. 45:1-4; Matt. 5:13-14; Matt. 13:29; Isa. 65:8; Matt. 24:22; Jer. 29:7; Gen. 39:5; Gal. 6:10; Gen. 18:26; Ps. 75:3; Gen. 9:11.
