Amos 1:1-2
AMOS AND HIS TASK (v.1a)
God calls Amos to proclaim his judgment upon the Gentile nations and then upon God’s own
chosen people.
AMOS AND HIS TIME (v.1b)
It was a time of unusual prosperity - wealth accumulated - leisure became possible. But the
blessings for which the rich were thanking God came at the expense of the poor.
AMOS AND HIS TEACHING (v.2)
God called a common farmer to preach to His people and warn them of coming judgment.
APPLICATION:
1. God is righteous.
2. God is not satisfied with formality in religion and hates religion when it is used to satisfy the status quo and oppresses the less fortunate.
3. It is not enough just to talk about our religion — we must act it out.
