Sermon Notes

I CAN’T GET NO SATISFACTION

Eccl. 1:12 - 2:26

Last week we saw that Solomon told us that, without God, life is a closed book and nothing is new. Today, Solomon tells that, without God, life is a deep problem and nothing is understood.

THE PURSUIT OF SATISFACTION

Three primary ways of Solomon’s pursuit of satisfaction..

  • Satisfaction pursued in wisdom (1:12-17)
  • Satisfaction pursued in work (2:1-4)
  • Satisfaction pursued in wealth (2:7-10)

THE PRETENSE OF SATISFACTION

Solomon learned that there many things in life that held the pretense of satisfaction…

  • That which does not fulfill us (2:11-15)
  • That which will not follow us (2:16-23)

THE PLACE OF SATISFACTION

Is there any place we can find satisfaction. Solomon came to the conclusion that the place of satisfaction was not wisdom, work, or wealth, but God.

  • God’s gift of enjoyment (2:24-25)

James 1:17

  • God’s gift of enlightenment (2:26)
