Welcome to Hope Talk
Let me encourage you in a specific matter. We celebrate the ordinance of Baptism on the last Sunday of August. Baptism is the public declaration of God’s work in the soul as shown by the assurance in the life of a true believer. Just as Jesus came, perfect Son of God, to fulfill all righteousness (Mt.3:15) by submitting to this rite of Baptism and upon which the Holy Spirit descended on Him as a sign and statement that God owned and ordered His step. The heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove (Mt.3:16) Baptism is not something to do but an acknowledgement of the work of God in the heart and an assurance in the life. Parents be careful not to encourage the young to do something that their lives do not support simply because you want them to do such. Jesus was 30 when He was baptized so you have plenty of time to watch God work in your child’s life. Explain and be patient. You are looking for the work of God in the heart, not innocence of youth. Have they come to a place of communion with the God of eternity, a responsible interaction with the Holy Spirit, and an overcoming desire to become more like Jesus in the life? Adults, you may have been baptized (like me) as a child and the assurances, the communion, the relationship with Jesus was not a part of it but simply an act that was expected by the church. Let me encourage you to consider Baptism as a statement of God’s work, ownership, and control in your life. I was also baptized later in life when I had seen God’s work in my life, and I knew His grace and goodness owned me. The Lord is patient and kind for all of us.
