Father John Allen, a priest of the Diocese of Charlotte, was appointed to the faculty of the Pontifical College Josephinum on July 13, 2005 by The Most Reverend Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States. He was subsequently appointed Dean of Men and Director of Pastoral Formation for the School of Theology, and of the seminary’s College of Liberal Arts. He holds a graduate degree in Theology from the Catholic University of America. Father Allen teaches the following graduate courses in the Josephinum School of Theology: History of Catholicism in the United States, American Catholic Spirituality, Church-State Relations Since 1789, and the Documents of the Second Vatican Council. As Director of Pastoral Formation for the seminary, he oversees the theological field education of all students. Please click here for a complete list of Father Allen’s courses. Father Allen serves on the Joint Ethics Advisory Board of OHIO Health, a non-profit network of seventeen hospitals and health care providers in central Ohio. He is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association, the American Catholic Historical Association, and of the editorial board of the Josephinum Journal of Theology. In October, 2008, he delivered a major lecture at the University of Saint Thomas in Houston entitled John Courtney Murray and American Politics. In 2009, he will be directing retreats for the priests of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend; for the deacons of Diocese of Lexington; and for the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus in Kirkwood, Missouri, as well a two university lectures on American Catholicism.
