There's no way around it - this is not an easy passage. As God's spokesperson, Nahum announces the impending destruction of Nineveh, and a promise to end their brutal oppression. While God's wrath is a threat to His enemies, it is balanced by His promise to deliver His people - His way. In this message, we'll see how God uses His methods today to bring about deliverance and victory for His children.

Why study a prophetic book, three chapters in length, written 600 years before Christ, that fits into the genre of "war poetry", and is filled with pronouncements of woe (but not of blessing)? This message introduces us to the prophet Nahum, his message, and to the sovereignty of God.

In this passage, God shifts His words - sometimes He is addressing Nineveh, sometimes He is addressing Judah. But, if we read closely, we can see how He is speaking to us - warnings of His wrath and discipline, and reminders of His care and shepherding. This passage teaches us that God's plans will prevail, and in Christ, freedom is readily available. 

Why does church membership matter? We know it is not an explicit command in the New Testament, and it is not even mentioned specifically. Yet, we see it articulated and demonstrated. In this message, we explain how we see the Scriptures addressing church membership, and offer up our reasons for encouraging it.

Though counter-intuitive, Peter presents this truth: when we understand our suffering, and particularly the purpose and Person behind it, we find peace. Only by believing the gospel does that make sense. But through believing the gospel, we have an invitation to hurl our anxieties - including our suffering - once for all on Christ.

God created us as thinking beings, which means that our thoughts matter. Our thoughts reveal our desires, and our thoughts animate our actions. In this passage, Peter challenges us to pursue Christlike thinking, and to have our thoughts and desires transformed by His grace

Because we are fallen, broken individuals living in a fallen, broken world, suffering is inescapable. But, when know the Person and the purpose of our suffering, we can faithfully endure.
