Glossary:      SADDUCEES

from Matthew 22, verses 23, 29, 31-32 The Sadducees who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. . . . But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

                       PHARISEES

from Matthew 23 Jesus was not complimentary to these Jewish religious leaders: they did not practice what they preached, everything was done for men to see, and they shut up the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. He called them hypocrites, sons of hell, blind guides, whitewashed tombs, snakes and vipers.
