A Note from Pastor Jerry!
Just a year ago this past Sunday we closed down our in-person Sunday services for as season. It was an agonizing 11 wks until we opened up again. With so little information on what and how our communities should handle a pandemic, NHCC's leadership believed it was necessary to be a part of the effort of "flattening the curve." Our local community needed to know we were not a threat and would be supportive of getting this thing under control. It was March 22nd, 2020 when we made that move and it wasn't until May 31st that we would reopen.
Much fear and worry had gripped the people of our world. The effects of the pandemic, social unrest, political strife, and even a shortage of common everyday household goods in our stores, turned many to isolation. It has become, a full year later, their sanctuary. It's a false sense of safety and security. It's had its devastating effect on so many who have been caught up in the confusion of what is "safe" and "not safe." NHCC leadership has not waivered in our resolve from May 31st, 2020 to this day, to have the doors of New Horizons Church open for worship and ministry.
A year later, with the progress of dilegent science bringing help to battle this virus via vaccines, with updated safety protocols and community awareness, things are looking up! Even so, much damage was done to spiritual communities where faith should always rule and fear should always be back on its heals. It has baffled many spiritual leaders as to why so many people have stayed in "retreat" and have not advanced toward re-gathering. Even after being vaccinated or having come through their own bought with Covid-19, there seems to be an apathy that has taken root regarding the need for Christian community.
Here at NHCC, we are concerned that many, a year later, have fallen into a pattern of staying away. Our hearts desire is to see a new emergence of real Christian community where people look after the needs of others because they stay in proximity to one another and bring strength to their relationships. Isolation from Christian community breeds desolation of spiritual maturity. We know that that what "was" lacked the tenacity to keep people connected in a healthy way. Our desire is to see community restored, but with a vastly different power to bring spiritual strength to our members lives.
I want to encourage YOU, if you haven't set a date to return to gathering for corporate worship, to make RESURRECTION SUNDAY! (Easter) April 4th the day you re-emerge from isolation and separation from your faith family. We are here for you. The Holy Spirit wants to inhabit our corporate praise in a mighty celebration of the ONE who took back what the devil stole though sin and death (even, Covid-19)! We look forward to greeting you at whatever your comfort level, whether that's with a fist bump, an elbow tap, a simple wave from across the worship area, or a full embrace. You take the lead. (btw--don't be surprised when you hear there's been a horrible spike in cases in Jackson county next week, that's just the ENEMY of the power of God trying to stop our corporate praise. NOT THIS RESURRECTION SUNDAY, not gonna happpen!)
Are you with me?
Who will YOU be inviting to Resurrection (Easter) Sunday, April 4th @ 10:45am? Someone needs to hear the message, "HIS LOVE NEVER FAILS!"
OPEN FOR WORSHIP IN-PERSON & ONLINE!
We want to assure you that we are remaining open for in-person worship, taking precautions and making sure the facility continues to be sanitized after our Sunday worship. We want to remind all who attend of these important guidelines:
1. Attend ONLY if you are NOT experiencing signs of illness
2. If you've been directly exposed to someone within the last 48 hrs who has tested Covid positive.
3. Minimize your risk by using personal hand sanitizer or those mounted on the wall outside the santuary and by PJ's office, being conscientious of the space you give others and yourself, wear a mask if you desire to, and limit touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Cover any cough or sneeze with a tissue.
We want to be sure to remind our church family to be diligent in the above practices. We want to encourage folks to spread out in our large worship area and know that you won't be crowded. We love you and want to see you stay healthy at New Horizons Church.
