It’s going to be tough, so hang on with me ok?

    What a year

There is enough tragedy and frustration around for just 60 seconds of news to turn me into a level of total frustration

And August was supposed to be the month of answers to our problems

Both political parties put up their vision for america
In which we learned that the other political party was the problem
And the same phrase was said once again this is the most important election ever
Every election is important but the manipulation of our feelings is ridiculous
My Facebook feed right now is full of people
Claiming that one side is full of lies proping up criminals, if you don’t speak out your part of the problem
If you wear your mask your being controlled by them
If you don’t lock yourself in the closet with a mask on your the most evil vile person on earth
    I’m exaggerating.
In other words the Autumn of 2020 is lets pile as much guilt on others

Do you have the feeling that just existing means your guilty?

According to nature.org the average american generates 16 tons of carbon or 32,000 pounds of carbon
According to the state of Ca In 2018, 1,656 cases of human trafficking were reported in California. Of those cases, 1,226 were sex trafficking cases, 151 were labor trafficking cases, 110 involved both labor and sex trafficking, and in 169 cases the type of trafficking was not specified. And what did you do about it?
According to 2018 statistics 151,278 people were homeless and it is likely much larger today
According to 2018 statistics, Over 2 million people in California are addicted to Alcohol with the overwhelming majority of them beginning their addictions before the age of 17. What are you doing to help our kids?

How many of you are feeling guilty right now, like really bad.

The likelihood is, you felt bad and then as soon as we are done you will walk away. Because guilt is fake.
Without a scientific study I will state that at least 95% of addicts have felt guilty and nothing changed.
100% of sinners have felt guilty and nothing changed.
    Romans 3:23 CSB
    23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;
Guilt is what you feel when your dentist asks if you regularly floss, your doctor if you exercise, the your preacher when he asks if you read your Bible, or pray.
And if your like me you might floss the night after your dental visit, excercise until you find a good reason not to, it doesn’t last

How many of us, How many people think, the church is about making you feel guilty?

I want to ask that question and then totally switch directions, while sweeping back around and picking back up where we are at right now.
My amazing daughter Deborah who is our main minister of the broadcast right now told me something fascinating.
She can tell the history of a girl by how she does a cartwheel.
She remarked that almost all girls have learned how to cartwheel, in fact I’d like to recommend all the women come out here ...
No, she said that it is all in the ending. If the girl is facing back to the way she cartwheeled when she finishes than she was trained in gymnastics or cheer, if she faces the more natural way which is the direction she was moving when she did the cartwheel she learned from friends or in the backyard.
You can attempt a cartwheel but some one who has spent years with a master can spot what is correct.

Feeling Guilty feels like its right but has nothing to do with Jesus. .

Guilt is a feeling, a bad, bad feeling but is not connected to action.
How many of you left the doctors feeling guilty but didn’t change,
If you floss will your teeth and gums be healthier yes.
If you exerciser safely will you be healthier yes.
If you help in our community will someone’s life be improved, most likely.
You knew that already. You have feelings about that already. But your hands and feet need to meet those actions and that just can not be accomplished through GUILT.

Our master Jesus brings acceptance, truth, and empowers change through becoming completely different through our character.

When Jesus met women who were sexually immoral, when he met theifs, when he met mothers of disobedient children, the sick, Jesus brought an acknowledgement of who they are and then an offering of love. He never brought guilt.
To a woman caught in the act of adultery, when all men wanted to kill her by throwing of stones, Jesus asked the person without sin to throw the first stone. Everyone there eventually recognized they were sinners and all walked away except Jesus, because He had no sin.
    John 8:9–11 CSB
9 When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only he was left, with the woman in the center. 10 When Jesus stood up, he said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, Lord,” she answered. “Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus. “Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.”]
That doesn’t sound like trying to get a lot of guilt does it?
In the times of Jesus people cared a lot about following the Bible, at least the first part called the Torah, and some groups all of it, what we Christians call the Old Testament.
They dedictated there whole lives to living perfectly in every area of their life and made up so many rules, so many directions on how to do everything. They were the ultimate at being able to spot someone breaking those rules, someone they would call a sinner.
Jesus spoke a very long sermon, in Matthew 5 - 7 in which he said amazing things.
    It started with
    Matthew 5:3 The Message
3 “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
And it said more and more amazing things.
You see at one point Jesus address the people who spent their whole lives trying to perfectly live every single part of the Bible while also telling all the other people how they must do what they do to follow the Bible to. Those groups were called Pharisees and scribes,
They were admired because of their rigid obedience and discipline.
but at one point Jesus said,
    Matthew 5:20 CSB
20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.
Unless your being right is even more right than the people who studied there whole lives to do everything right than there is no way you will get into Heaven.
IN other words there is not enough effort in the world that is going to make you good enough, make you perfect enough to get into God’s kingdom.
Or put another way, according to Jesus there is no such thing as a good person.
I’ve been to plenty of funerals where people said that such and such was a good person … I’m not judging when I say no they weren’t.
    Even today I saw this:

Skin color doesn’t mean anything you’re either a good person or you’re not, Period.

And while I appreciate someone rising above race, there is only one good person and He is both God and man. Otherwise nope they are not good.
    Jesus said,
    Mark 10:18 CSB
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him. “No one is good except God alone.
If you can be good, than there is no hope for us, because if anyone here wrongs someone, spreads lies either knowingly or unknowingly, not only avoids sexually mistreating someone but even has the thoughts of having sex with someone outside of their consent, if not only do you not hurt someone but you don’t let you mind race with anger towards those you don’t know or those you do know, If you have ever been wrong in your accusations against another.
Than you are not a good person. You know it, I know it, we all know that no one here is good, we are guilty, we felt guilty and yet we haven’t changed.
Jesus is a completely different way, follow Him.
Since you and I can’t be good enough to enter into the Kingdom of God we need help. And we got it.
    Romans 8:1–5 The Message
1 With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. 2 A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death. 3 God went for the jugular when he sent his own Son. He didn’t deal with the problem as something remote and unimportant. In his Son, Jesus, he personally took on the human condition, entered the disordered mess of struggling humanity in order to set it right once and for all. The law code, weakened as it always was by fractured human nature, could never have done that. The law always ended up being used as a Band-Aid on sin instead of a deep healing of it. 4 And now what the law code asked for but we couldn’t deliver is accomplished as we, instead of redoubling our own efforts, simply embrace what the Spirit is doing in us. 5 Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God!
The living and breathing God. That is what is available to you today. We do not follow a book, not an organization, You see when Jesus walked the earth and he told someone to follow Him, He litterally meant start walking with me, be willing to leave this place and walk with me, see how I do life, and copy it,
We follow our Lord Jesus Christ, in relationship. We live as the prostitute, the thief, the messed up did after they encountered Jesus radically realizing we can be totally different because we don’t have to feel guilty any more.
Jesus fixed it. As we follow Him, I mean we look at life and do it his way, like a great cart wheel coach we just copy Him, we learn how to love God and love others, how to live this life bringing healing to people not condemnation.
We do small things like love others enough to do our job well regardless of the color, age, ability or orientation of our customer. We love others.
We participate in big things God calls us to which might include helping his creation, working against human trafficking, even helping to elect those who might bring policies that more reflect a Godly vision of society, work to bring racial reconciliation, justice and forgiveness but we do those out of calling, out of an overwhelming knowledge that this is what Jesus does in our time.
And when someone comes along withe messages of guilt like

Why do you do that if you’re a real Christian?

    or

If you don’t do what I say right now than you’re the problem

    or

If your good than you need to spread messages of guilt, hatred, fear, anger, or division for the sake of power

These are all messages of guilt which you can say, that’s not how Jesus talks so I will ignore.

    Jesus told us,
    John 10:27 The Message
27 My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me.
My daughter told me another fascinating thing. She has no idea when she learned how to do a cartwheel correctly. She does it so often for so long it has become a part of her as she continues to learn much more complicated tumbling. She would have to work really hard to mess up a cartwheel she knows it so well.
Many athletes have developed the muscle memory of their sport. I have memorized how to use my remote control for example.
I kid, but as we follow the relationship of Jesus daily, often, doing what we know HE does and submitting to Jesus to learn how to do what we don’t know we begin to learn so well that it becomes second nature.
And the need to live in crappy guilt is excluded because Jesus changes us, not through us always feeling horrible about ourselves but overwhelmed that He paid the price for it, we no longer have to feel anything but Grateful that the horribleness is over.
Thus we can walk away from shame and begin to heal in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus.

I follow Jesus, my guilt is Gone I’ve been set free. My God, My Savior has rescued me. I can do whatever He calls me to.
