On Friday night the Supreme Court ruled that the state of CA cannot close churches but allow other business to remain open.
What’s funny? Our great film person’s response
There is going to be a lot of that this year. But I just got good at it. ...
    This time is temporary
That doesn’t just go for corona time but it goes for life in general.
Could you imagine if your greatest skill was getting the tape working after it got snagged in an 8-track player? Anyone younger than 45 doesn’t even know what I’m talking about.
God tells us in the Bible what how we can avoid this mistake.
    2 Corinthians 4:18 CSB
18 So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
We’ve been talking about working on the eternal, rather than the temporary.
This year has been so temporary and how we should live it is in what matters
Because the eternal is going to carry us ...
    Matthew 6:19 CSB
19 “Don’t store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

Eternal Finances - Storing up treasurers in heaven by loving God and loving others with our lives, money, time and other resources

We talked about all the things we have we’ve got money or we got time. we got friends or we got space. We have the ability to think and move. We have all kinds of resources from God.
We know everything here is breaking down so we are committing all of who we are to building towards the eternal.
Before that we discussed another thing that is eternal, the directions for our life are eternal.

The words of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit which we know through the Bible. The word of God is eternal.

    Matthew 24:35 CSB
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
We want to invest our time in the eternal words, that will be with us when the directions on where to stand in Walmart and what cleanser to use is long gone.
If we invested our time in the word of God, we would find that at this time our chief concern would not be for our own safety and continued life but for how we love God and how we love him by treating others.
In this time of anger, control, and frustration let God, our neighbors, co-workers, fellow church members know how much you love them, pray for them and care for them.
Those things are eternal. Those things last past this transition time.

Things that are eternal: God’s words, Treasurers in Heaven, and know what?

In a world where almost a year ago I thought my great concern this year was how where we going to deal with the loss of Justin and Meagan Steward to moving back to Santa Rosa, we survived almost a complete year of bizarre church.
We went online, drive-in, outside, inside, online and now next week, we will be back inside.
But I also want to tell you why it’s important and what it means to be part of not just New Day but part of the people who follow Jesus Christ.
You see this group, that knows Jesus is God, that follows God in what we do, we have called ourselves Christians. As a group, we are called The Church. This group is eternal.

    The church is eternal.

This year has been so special in the fact that we have done much more with other churches than previously.
Takin’ It To the Streetz, ministry by Pastor Raymond’s goal is to take indoor worship of God and put it out in public, amongst the hardest hit areas of cities.
They are the church, we are the church, all the churches come together there are the church.
Pastor Cher and Hmong Baptist Fellowship is the church and we are part of them.
Pastor Sergio and the Word church is the church and we are the church. And together we are the church. The churches in our association are the church. It is to us and to groups like us over 2,000 years ago that this part of the eternal word of God was written to, with an incredibly important message for us to grasp, and its high importance to our lives.
    Here is that message:
    1 Peter 2:9 CSB
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Let’s dig in to this ancient piece of the eternal word of God.
It’s from a letter, written by Jesus’ best friend Peter, to the church, the gathering of Christians in many different places in the world of his day. So we can know immediately that the “you” is anyone who is a Christian, anyone who is part of the worldwide church.
So the “you” in this verse is the people way back 2,000 years ago that followed Jesus, the church, but is also to anyone today, if you claim that you are a follower of Jesus Christ, that you commit to be part of his group of fellow followers called the church, than you quite literally means you!
If you were take a picture through your computer or your phone right now of the person looking at the screen, than you is that person.
So read it again with your name,
“but Phil is a part of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that Phil and his fellow followers of Jesus may proclaim the praises of the one who called Phil and these Christians out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
its funny I was talking with Phil as he was filling out a government form this week and was asked that race question.
He was complaining because there wasn’t a spot for click all that apply when it comes to him and race.
Our “race” in 2020 has more to do with racism, and the horrible effects of sin than to do with what the Bible is talking about here. Its from a racist labeling of the world based on pigment in skin and other things we randomly choose.
But Peter says that Phil, Deborah, Ej, Pastor Cher of our Hmong Church, we are all one race. We are God’s chosen race.
The reason Peter says that is because he was talking to a people who could remember what the Jewish Bible, the Old Testament, told us about a people who were blood relatives, the Jews, they all come from the same family line. All from the line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This was what the Greek word we translate as race means here,
We get the word geneology from it. Tt is talking about being connected by blood. We are not connected by DNA in our blood but the blood of Jesus Christ. But also the people who first heard Peter heard something more than that Peter wanted us to remember when God first chose a people through Moses and said,
    Deuteronomy 7:6 CSB
6 For you are a holy people belonging to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be his own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.
but that choosing came with an agreement to worship and obey the laws of God which they failed. Any of us would have failed. We can’t be good enough. But God already had a plan and told all of us this plan through the prophet Isaiah that who his people failed.
    Isaiah 43:21–22 CSB
21 The people I formed for myself will declare my praise. 22 “But, Jacob, you have not called on me, because, Israel, you have become weary of me.
    They rejected God.
And God told them this resulted in failure of their relationship
    Isaiah 43:28 CSB
28 So I defiled the officers of the sanctuary, and set Jacob apart for destruction and Israel for scorn.
But He always made a new way, it was always part of the plan, that something different was coming.
    Isaiah 44:3–5 CSB
3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants and my blessing on your offspring. 4 They will sprout among the grass like poplars by flowing streams. 5 This one will say, ‘I am the Lord’s’; another will use the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’ and take on the name of Israel.”
Right now we see the images in this prophecy sprouting up all over us. The dirt used to be barren but no green grass is sprouting up everywear. Where ever there is water new life emerges.
Here the blood of Jesus has watered other people’s. you are the people that sprouted where there wasn’t life before. Isaiah said there will be someone different and God is using Peter to say that this day when another will take the name of Israel, another will be among the chosen people, that day is today.

You are chosen by God. You are part of the chosen.

Think about that for a second.
I love to tell you all about my failed dating, but I can tell you I know what it’s like to be told I just want to be friends.
I also know what its like not to get called back by a job.
I know what its like to get rejected.
    God is not rejecting you.
    God chose you.
God arranged the whole fabric of history so you could hear about him, accept him, follow Him, and worship Him. He wanted you for that.
God knows you. God chose you. and very importantly He chose everyone who calls on His name. He arranged it so they would have the ability to call on Him.
It means thank God He chose you.
When other people say your not good enough. Remember what you used to do and what you have now. When others try and say your worthless.
The King of Kings. The one in the greatest VIP room ever, chose you.
And don’t you want to hang out with those who are chosen by God?
Every person who is part of the Church is chosen.
Think about that as you think about the way you treat others in Christ.
    But it’s way more impressive.
    1 Peter 2:9 CSB
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Rochelle is part of a chosen people, She was God’s choice, and She is part of a Royal Priesthood.
    Say what?
If you are a follow of Jesus are part of the Royal Priesthood.
The best way to understand this is to understand that Royal is an adjective, describing the type of Priest. These Priests were politically connected.
I am pastor. I have talked with previous Mayors. But I am not a book selling, cable news guest, or being invited to pray at the capitol. The Royal Priest is the priest who is politically connected. They are the King’s priest..
But wait, on earth, the way to be a famous pastor, is to write a few books and get called to be pastor at a church that a lot of people attend. That’s it. It really doesn’t have much to do with God. No disrespect intended.
Yet God says, what the world recognizes, I don’t. Rochelle has access to me, as a Royal Priesthood. You have access to God, you are a Royal Priest. Everyone in the church is Roral Priest.

You are the Priests to the King of Kings.

I mentioned the velvet ropes. You ever had the chance to be in a place off limits to others but they want in?
I get to go into the teachers lounge. I also guarded the dressing room of a famous country singer. I’ve been at the select table a couple of times and it feels pretty awesome.
    My friends today recognize, “

God invites you passed the velvet Rope and into His throne room to meet with Him

Just as you are, just a forgiven sinner, who accepted His sacrifice and follow Him. Becoming a new creation.
Once again the call of us as Royal Priests calls back to the Old Testament. When the priests of the temple were rejected for disobeying God and new priests were being foretold.
    Isaiah 61:6–7 CSB
6 But you will be called the Lord’s priests; they will speak of you as ministers of our God; you will eat the wealth of the nations, and you will boast in their riches. 7 In place of your shame, you will have a double portion; in place of disgrace, they will rejoice over their share. So they will possess double in their land, and eternal joy will be theirs.
Not only is the eternal joy yours, you are in the closest spot you could be in that eternity.
The book that talks about the end exactly proclaims this truth. You are a Royal Priest
    Revelation 20:6 CSB
6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
Now if you are a Royal Priest chosen by God than you have worth. You are not your past. You have an important purpose. You have an important calling. You are part of a group of very important people who are capable of making eternal deference in the lives of millions of people, who are capable of putting a smile on God’s face from ear to ear.
See because you are part of something very special.
Today some teams of football players are going to say that they have done something very special as they worked hard together to win games together and beat other men. A great show will be put on for us today. But next year there will be another great team. These two teams may win very few games next year. If not next year than they will begin losing again in a few more years, and then winning again. because that’s how temporary things are.
But for those who follow Christ. you are more than a chosen race, more than a royal priest hood. You are part of a Holy nation.
I’m not talking about America. I am talking about the people so important to God that He shed his own blood for them. I am talking about the Church.
We are part of a Holy nation. Holy means set apart, purified for a special purpose, different than everything around it.
    Another phrase might be sacred.
Think about this today, From Australia, New Guinea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, India, Russia, Iran, Israel, Poland, Germany, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Libya, France, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Brazil, New York, Texas, Chili, Mexico, Hawaii, ALL OVER THIS WORLD WE ARE ONE ONE NATION, WE ARE THE CHURCH, OUR NATION HAS RISEN UP TO PRAISE THE GLORY OF OUR KING!
You are part of that nation. The nation of followers of Jesus Christ. You are part of that multicolored, multilingual, multi-cultural race. You are priests with them.

You are part of something much bigger than you can ever imagine.

Don’t underestimate what God wants to do with His people.
    His people,
    That’s the next part.
Kendra is part of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession.
    Psalm 33:12 CSB
12 Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord the people he has chosen to be his own possession!
I have a friend whose highest delight would be to be called someone’s girlfriend. It’s what she is waiting for someone to claim her.
The claiming of possession is very kingly, as this is my territory, mine. But it also means worth.
Tomorrow is my trash day. I am not going to be upset if someone comes along and takes my trash before the trash man can take it. It’s trash to me, I don’t want it.
I claim what has worth to me. Also what I claim I have power over. Now my power comes from the government, a social understanding with neighbors, you know like don’t take my stuff, whatever, but God actually has power over us.
That is why you don’t have to be worried that you are going to get tricked into becoming demon possessed. you are God’s people He has power over you.
    You are His.
Yes this is another example of the Church being the new chosen of God in addition to the race known as Jews. Not anti-Jewish but recognizing that God has widened His kingdom beyond ethnicity to a restoration of the world.
Yet it doesn’t make much sense to do all this picking if it wasn’t for a purpose. It is for a purpose.
    1 Peter 2:9 CSB
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
But you, whoever you are watching today or listening or here inside that worship the Lord Jesus, you are a part of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s possession, (here comes why God does all this), so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

You have a job to proclaim the praises of his God.

Next week is Valentine’s day and we will be gathering for the first time in a long time next week in person. If your still in at risk category or ill or exposed we will still be online.
But next week I want you to be ready. Because next week is Valentine’s Day on a Sunday.
I want you ready to proclaim your love for God. This is why God picked you. I want you ready to come in here and share all that God means to you. I want you ready to get the perfect candy heart phrase that talks about who God is.
We will start practicing all of this tonight, 15 minutes after the super bowl on zoom. Today join us and we are going to connect, share, and pray together.

    http://bit.ly/SBCONNECT

And we are going to talk more about our eternal jobs and our eternal role as the church in the eternal Kingdom of God, next week.
Now realize you get to be with a chosen group, the church, to Proclaim the greatness of God
Let’s proclaim that in prayer right now.
