Greeting: The grace and peace of our Triune God be with you all!
Prelude: When I Survey
Prayer of Invocation
Call to Worship: From Psalm 40
Leader: You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you!
People: I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.
Leader: In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.
ALL: May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the LORD!”
Hymn: Great is Thy Faithfulness (Trinity, 32)
First Reading: Exodus 20:1-18
Song: Jesus Strong and Kind (CityAlight)
Jesus said
That if I thirst
I should come to him
No one else can satisfy
I should come to him
Jesus said
If I am weak
I should come to him
No one else can be my strength
I should come to him
Chorus:
For the Lord is good and faithful
He will keep us day and night
We can always run to Jesus
Jesus, strong and kind
Jesus said
That if I fear
I should come to him
No one else can be my shield
I should come to him
Chorus
Jesus said if I am lost
He will come to me
And he showed me on that cross
He will come to me
Chorus x2
Confession of Sin: Romans 6:11-12 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
Question for Reflection: Do I live as one who is dead to sin, or do I let sin reign in my life and obey its evil desires?
Silent Confession/Corporate Confession of Sin: (Psalm 25:6-11 and Heb 9:14) Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. For your name's sake, O LORD, pardon our guilt, for it is great. We repent and rest our hope upon the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God to purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Cause us by your Spirit to die to sin and live unto righteousness. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon: Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Leader: Brothers and sisters, this is the Gospel!
People: Thanks be to God!
Affirmation of Faith: Apostles Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell.1The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;2 the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
1 Descended into hell: His body remained under the power of death.
2 Holy Catholic Church: The visible Christian church of all times and all places.
Second Reading: Matthew 10:26-39
Song: Grace
From death to life forever
And sings the song of righteousness
By blood and not by merit
Your grace that reaches far and wide
To every tribe and nation
Has called my heart to enter in
The joy of Your salvation
By grace I am redeemed
By grace I am restored
And now I freely walk
Into the arms of Christ my Lord
Your grace that I cannot explain
Not by my earthly wisdom
The prince of life, without a stain
Was traded for this sinner
Let praise rise up and overflow
My song resound forever
For grace will see me welcomed home
To walk beside my Saviour
Congregational Prayers
The Lord’s Prayer: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
