The Basis of Election
God chose Israel by grace, making them his special people, his holy nation (cf. Rom. 9). Now God's chosen people are those who don't stumble because of Christ, but obey His word (1 Pet. 2:8-11), "as many as are appointed" (Acts 13:48)
1 Peter 2:8English Standard Version
and
“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”
They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
- But what is God’s reply to him? “I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5 So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. 6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace. Mark — Edited
Mr. Felmar, it seems as though Scripture disagrees with you. Obedience is a result of grace not a condition for grace.Felmar Roel Rap. Singco — Edited
^^^ Sir Mark, thanks for the in put. But I beg to dis agree, though. I refer you back to the Scriptural verse that you quote, thus: "I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal". The phrase there — ". . . who have not bowed the knee to Baal" — is controlling. It affirms my thesis above, that obedience can be a basis of election, in this case, the 7,000 Israelites who have obeyed God's commandment not to worship Baal by them "not bowing the knee to Baal", and thus meriting by that obedience His election, and there by His grace.
