Until Christ is Formed in You
This is the goal of the disciple-maker, that people would conform to the image of Jesus (Romans 8:29) and become mature to the stature of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).
In contrast to the evil motives of the Judaizers, Paul sought to bring the Galatians to Christlikeness.
Paul’s imagery in Galatians 4:19 is powerful. He would have at least had the attention of all the mothers in the church by comparing his ministry to childbirth. Giving birth is a joyful experience, because once the trauma is over and the pain has subsided, the parent has a child to be proud of. But in Paul’s metaphor, he was being forced to start over and “birth” the same child. It’s no wonder he was feeling perplexed (Galatians 4:20), or literally, "at wits end."
Galatians 4:19–20New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update
My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you—
but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
