CALL TO WORSHIP

PSALM 22:25-27NRSV

APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

   creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit

and born of the virgin Mary.

     He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

     was crucified, died, and was buried;

     he descended to hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

     He ascended to heaven

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

     the holy catholic* church,

     the communion of saints,

     the forgiveness of sins,

     the resurrection of the body,

     and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN

LEAD ON, O KING ETERNAL #580

1. Lead on, O King eternal, the day of march has come; henceforth in fields of conquest thy tents shall be our home. Through days of preparation thy grace has made us strong; and now, O King eternal, we lift our battle song.

2. Lead on, O King eternal, till sin's fierce war shall cease, and holiness shall whisper the sweet amen of peace. For not with swords loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums; with deeds of love and mercy the heavenly kingdom comes.

3. Lead on, O King eternal, we follow, not with fears, for gladness breaks like morning where'er thy face appears. Thy cross is lifted o'er us, we journey in its light; the crown awaits the conquest; lead on, O God of might.

PRAYER

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

HYMN

SOFTLY AND TENDERLY JESUS IS CALLING #348

1. Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me; see, on the portals he's waiting and watching, watching for you and for me. Come home, (Come home), come home; (come home); you who are weary, come home; earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!

2. Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not his mercies, mercies for you and for me? Come home, (Come home), come home; (come home); you who are weary, come home; earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!

3. Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing, passing from you and from me; shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming, coming for you and for me. Come home, (Come home), come home; (come home); you who are weary, come home; earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!

4. O for the wonderful love he has promised, promised for you and for me! Though we have sinned, he has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me. Come home, (Come home), come home; (come home); you who are weary, come home; earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home!

HYMN

THERE IS A BALM IN GILEAD #375

1. There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole; there is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. Sometimes I feel discouraged, and think my work's in vain. But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.

2. There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole; there is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. Don't ever feel discouraged, for Jesus is your friend, and if you look for knowledge he'll ne'er refuse to lend.

3. There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole; there is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. If you can't preach like Peter, if you can't pray like Paul, just tell the love of Jesus, and say he died for all.
