CALL TO WORSHIP

Psalm 91:1-4NRSV

APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

   creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit

and born of the virgin Mary.

     He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

     was crucified, died, and was buried;

     he descended to hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

     He ascended to heaven

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

     the holy catholic* church,

     the communion of saints,

     the forgiveness of sins,

     the resurrection of the body,

     and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN

LIFT HIGH THE CROSS PG 159

1. Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adore his sacred name. Come, Christians, follow this triumphant sign. The hosts of God in unity combine.

2. Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adore his sacred name. Each newborn servant of the Crucified bears on the brow the seal of him who died.

3. Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adore his sacred name. O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree, as thou hast promised, draw the world to thee.

4. Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adore his sacred name. So shall our song of triumph ever be: Praise to the Crucified for victory!

PRAYER

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

HYMN

HE LEADETH ME: O BLESSED THOUGHT PG 128

1. He leadeth me: O blessed thought! O words with heavenly comfort fraught! Whate'er I do, where'er I be, still' tis God's hand that leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me; his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.

2. Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom, sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom, by waters still, o'er troubled sea, still' tis his hand that leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me; his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.

3. Lord, I would place my hand in thine, nor ever murmur nor repine; content, whatever lot I see, since' tis my God that leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me; his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.

4. And when my task on earth is done, when by thy grace the victory's won, e'en death's cold wave I will not flee, since God through Jordan leadeth me. He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand he leadeth me; his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.

I STAND AMAZED IN THE PRESENCE PG 371

1. I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, and wonder how he could love me, a sinner, condemned, unclean. How marvelous! (O how marvelous!) How wonderful! (O how wonderful!) And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! (O how marvelous) How wonderful (O how wonderful) is my Savior's love for me!

2. For me it was in the garden he prayed: "Not my will, but thine." He had no tears for his own griefs, but sweat-drops of blood for mine. How marvelous! (O how marvelous!) How wonderful! (O how wonderful!) And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! (O how marvelous) How wonderful (O how wonderful) is my Savior's love for me!

3. In pity angels beheld him, and came from the world of light to comfort him in the sorrows he bore for my soul that night. How marvelous! (O how marvelous!) How wonderful! (O how wonderful!) And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! (O how marvelous) How wonderful (O how wonderful) is my Savior's love for me!

4. He took my sins and my sorrows, he made them his very own; he bore the burden to Calvary, and suffered and died alone. How marvelous! (O how marvelous!) How wonderful! (O how wonderful!) And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! (O how marvelous) How wonderful (O how wonderful) is my Savior's love for me!

5. When with the ransomed in glory his face I at last shall see,' twill be my joy through the ages to sing of his love for me. How marvelous! (O how marvelous!) How wonderful! (O how wonderful!) And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! (O how marvelous) How wonderful (O how wonderful) is my Savior's love for me!
