- Wrote from a Credo Baptist perspective and is a really good understanding of the baptism in all the Baptist Faith Traditions. What's the big deal about baptism? Jesus commands his disciples to be baptized, and it’s a glorious picture of a person’s union with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Still, many Christians feel unclear about the topic, having more questions than answers. This short work provides a biblical explanation of baptism. What is it? Who should be baptized? Why is it required for church membership? And how should churches practice baptism? About the Author Bobby Jamieson is a Ph.D. student in New Testament at the University of Cambridge. He previously served as assistant editor for 9Marks and is the author, most recently, of Going Public: Why Baptism Is Required for Church Membership (B&H, 2015). Jonathan Leeman (Ph.D., University of Wales), an elder at the Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC, is the editorial director at 9Marks and is the author, most recently, of Don’t Fire Your Church Members: The Case for Congregationalism (B&H, 2015). - It took me a while to track down this little pamphlet called "The Bleeding of the Evangelical Church" by David F. Wells (adding it to documents). I looked for a copy after reading it over a decade ago and well times have changed - now I truly believe - Amazon now sells everything. I thought about it last week and went and looked and sure enough plenty of used and even a new copy for $95 if someone was willing to spend it. It is just 16 pages and sold for $2 when published so I was not going to fork out that kind of cash but I did find a decent copy and after s/h the total was $8.95 and worth every penny. Little things like this make PBB so important to me and why I think this group is important - just a small plug for our club... :-)
- I have reposted the document - the first one was scanned as jpegs and only images inside of the Word document. Thanks to Wally for catching it.
- Morris Proctor's Mentor Robert Morgan wrote this wonderful little book called "The Red Sea Rules - 10 God-Given Strategies For Difficult Times" - I just posted the book and cover. I think it is a "must have" esp. for difficult times. Here are the chapters: RED SEA RULE #1 Realize that God means for you to be where you are. RED SEA RULE #2 Be more concerned for God’s glory than for your relief. RED SEA RULE #3 Acknowledge your enemy, but keep your eyes on the Lord. RED SEA RULE #4 Pray! RED SEA RULE #5 Stay calm and confident, and give God time to work. RED SEA RULE #6 When unsure, just take the next logical step by faith. RED SEA RULE #7 Envision God’s enveloping presence. RED SEA RULE #8 Trust God to deliver in His own unique way. RED SEA RULE #9 View your current crisis as a faith builder for the future. RED SEA RULE #10 Don’t forget to praise Him.
- New Book - Visual Theology by Tim Challies - this one was difficult because if had so many pictures - it will be listed as a zip file which will have 3 Docx files and a cover file. Post it within the hour. From Amazon: We live in a visual culture. Today, people increasingly rely upon visuals to help them understand new and difficult concepts. The rise and stunning popularity of the Internet infographic has given us a new way in which to convey data, concepts and ideas. But the visual portrayal of truth is not a novel idea. Indeed, God himself used visuals to teach truth to his people. The tabernacle of the Old Testament was a visual representation of man’s distance from God and God’s condescension to his people. Each part of the tabernacle was meant to display something of man’s treason against God and God’s kind response. Likewise, the sacraments of the New Testament are visual representations of man’s sin and God’s response. Even the cross was both reality and a visual demonstration. As teachers and lovers of sound theology, Challies and Byers have a deep desire to convey the concepts and principles of systematic theology in a fresh, beautiful and informative way. In this book, they have made the deepest truths of the Bible accessible in a way that can be seen and understood by a visual generation. Review Tim Challies (the writer) and Josh Byers (the designer) have teamed up to produce a truly unique introduction to theology and guide to living the Christian life. This is show-and-tell at its finest. Most theology books merely convey what we are to believe, but this one uses creative and beautiful design to capture and portray these crucial truths. I know of nothing else quite like it, and I trust that God will use it to help his people see and celebrate reality in a new way. -- Justin Taylor, managing editor of The ESV Study Bible and coauthor of The Final Days of Jesus You’ve probably seen (or used) a gospel presentation drawn on a whiteboard or a napkin. It’s remarkable how God gives us spiritual insight when we behold truths about him with our eyes. With engaging graphics and descriptions of the Christian faith, Tim Challies and Josh Byers have done something genuinely unique in Visual Theology. See for yourself! -- Gloria Furman, author of Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full and The Pastor's Wife My mind is blown. Tim Challies and Josh Byers marry rock-ribbed Reformational theology with breathtaking presentations. The effect is something like following John Knox into the Matrix. In this diaphanous world, we encounter no fiction, but very reality itself --- God-reality --- and we are transformed. -- Owen Strachan, associate professor of Christian theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary A delightful read. It combines wise knowledge of sound theology with a readable, inviting style. -- Wayne Grudem, professor and author of the bestselling Systematic Theology A resource that will be of immense help to believers in our visual age. -- Nancy Leigh DeMoss, author and Revive Our Hearts radio host This is simple yet profound, clever without being flashy. Helpful and practical. Speaking as a person who avoids diagrams and graphs at all costs, I found the infographics in this book to be illuminating. This cheeky little number is a class act. -- Mez McConnell, pastor of Niddrie Community Church, Edinburgh, and director of 20schemes
- Faithlife won't let me upload the files because they are too large. there is a link below to download the zip file and it looks like this needs to be a project to get it formatted and broke down into smaller files to put on the group documents page - who is up for the challenge? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7yMKxCD8n6tVHRfTVRLV0xDX2s/view?usp=sharing
- Go and get your free copy of this wonderful work today (link at the bottom of post) & I will have a personal book ready to download here in an hour or so. We Are One Body in Christ - To believers in Christ, God gives a spiritual anatomy: Christ is the Head, we are His body, and members one of another. Paul enlarges this thought in 1 Corinthians 12:12-27. And yet in today’s church we see many divisions, often over secondary issues. How do these divisions affect those of us in the West and do they have implications for the mission field? Download this booklet from Donald Barnhouse to read how he was convicted regarding the need for oneness among believers. - About Updated: Personal Books in Logos are one of its greatest strengths. The ability to build a book and have access to things such as: Research papers, meeting notes, books not in print, books not available in electronic form, books that Logos doesn't sell, etc... are a cornerstone for me and my ministry. I hope to return that blessing in a small way to help you build and share personal books and in turn will help you grow deeper in God's Word and it will be a blessing to you, your ministry and all you have contact with. This is good for authors I agree with and those whom I disagree with. This is why this group can have people from all denominations and faith traditions. Even if we don't agree we can provide resources for the "opposing side" so to speak. This "club" works on the honor system, if a book is copyrighted you need to own some sort of copy to download that file. Any work that is public domain is free for the taking. There will be a mixture of books in this group so please police yourselves. If you would love a certain book and cannot afford it at this time - please post to the group and let us know. We are always willing to help a brother or sister out and can purchase one for you. Love in Christ, Jeff
