Can anyone point me to the right search terms for finding each occurrence in my library where Jesus speaks on a specific topic? For example, I've tried "<Person Jesus> INTERSECTS <Topic Worship>" and got zero results. When I tried "<Person Jesus> worship" I got a lot of worship results but none connected directly to Jesus. The closest I think I've found so far is "<Person Jesus> NEAR worship" but that mostly returns results where someone worshipped Jesus.
- Thank you both, for your help! Interestingly, "{Speaker <Person Jesus>} INTERSECTS <Topic worship>" did not net any results for me but "{Speaker <Person Jesus>} INTERSECTS worship" did (12 verses in the NKJV where Jesus used the word worship for example). Looks like, for at least this query, the Topic tag is the weakest link. Thank you Donna for pointing me to the Speaker tag and for Adam Borries (Faithlife) for confirming that we were moving in the right direction. Can either of you think of how to pull a speaker's teachings on a topic beyond this?

2. <Topic>, I was surprised when I first learned, only works in "topical" resources (usually encyclopedias). For technical reasons I won't go into here, it also doesn't work with the "WITHIN" or "INTERSECTS" operators. Instead, there are (at least) three ways you can look for a topic in the Bible: Preaching Themes, Cultural Concepts, and word Senses. - Preaching Themes (e.g. {Section <PreachingTheme = Worship>} ) are used to mark passages related to a idea that shows up in the Sermon Starter Guide. - Cultural Concepts (e.g.,{Section <Culture Worship>} ) mark sections (sometimes one line, sometimes whole paragraphs) which refer to ideas in the ancient world. - Senses try to get at the idea behind a single word. You should experiment with combining these kinds of data, but since Themes and Concepts are applied to passages, you'll probably have the best result with Sense in this case. Try this: (<Sense to worship>) INTERSECTS {Speaker <Person Jesus>}- I ask John at Learn Logos and this is what he replied and you can add this to the other ideas: On Feb 15, 2018, at 8:53 AM, <john@learnlogos.com> <john@learnlogos.com> wrote: Hi Joe, This not easily done in Logos for a variety of reasons and so it will require multiple searches to “reel in” as many appropriate hits as possible. To solve this search problem, you need to find all the words that could be connected to the idea of worship (Louw-Nida, Sense Lexicon are the best tools for this). The next problem is relating these idea to Jesus. Although, you can search all is said (red-letters or passage list of all verses related to Him), there are still places where He may not say anything directly, but those He is speaking with do discuss. So you will need to read these contexts manually, and discern their appropriateness. Topical Bibles and Thematic Bibles do discuss worship and should be consulted as well. Lastly, running the factbook on the topic ‘worship’ or even the passage guide on a specific passage to find additional cross references may help as well. Here are a handful of searches you can run. There are certainly more…but hopefully this will help you make some progress.
