Bible Study tip: When reading your Bible the Holy Spirit will prompt you to pause on a certain passage or verse of Scripture. When this happens then there are three steps that need to be taken.
1. Insight-what does this verse mean. Take time to define the words that are not easily understood and even look up some that you may "think" you understand what they mean, because sometimes I am surprised by the "true" definition of a word. (A Webster's 1828 dictionary is best for this)
2. Conviction-now that you have defined the words and looked at the verse with a better understanding of the individual words, you can get a better understanding of the verse as a whole. What is God wanting to correct, change, or emphasize in your life as a result of this verse. You will know what God is convicting you of by the pricking of the Holy Spirit on your heart. (Hint-it is usually the first spiritual thing that comes to your mind.
3. Application-Now that you know that "what" that God is dealing with you about, you need to determine the "how". This is letting God lead you in actively dealing with the sin He has convicted you of. Insight and conviction mean nothing if personal application is not made!
Hope this helps as you spend daily time in the Word of God.
