I am studying 1pe 4.1 and specifically how it can be that whoever suffers in the flesh has ceased from sin. In praying and searching the scriptures I found heb 2:18 which provided some insight into this. It occurred to me that what 1 pe 4:1 is specifically talking about is us suffering in the flesh by not yielding to temptation. When we are fighting the good fight of the faith we are not sinning. Essentially it is God’s will we put our flesh to death Gal 5:24 and die to self. Not to physically kill ourselves but instead not yielding to the passions and desires of our flesh. It appears to also be true that God’s will is that this suffering can be to the point of us actually shedding our blood (not by our own hand) as history and even our brethren today who are tortured for Christ are enduring. I am not saying in any way, shape or form that this suffering is for our sins. Jesus did that for us as only he could do. Praise God, thank you Jesus.
- 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, Ephesians 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Romans 6:2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Romans 6:7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. Galatians 5:24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Colossians 3:3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 2 Peter 2:14 They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! Romans 6:14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Romans 14:7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 2 Corinthians 5:15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, Titus 2:12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. Romans 6:11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Ezekiel 44:6 And say to the rebellious house, to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: O house of Israel, enough of all your abominations, Ezekiel 45:9 “Thus says the Lord God: Enough, O princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression, and execute justice and righteousness. Cease your evictions of my people, declares the Lord God. Acts 17:30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
- Hebrews 2:18 (ESV): 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
