- Insight from Butler’s Daily Bible Reading: Ezekiel 10—Departing of Glory. God said He would meet with Israel between the cherubims of the ark (Exodus 25:22) and there the glory of God would especially be located. This chapter reports it departing from there. •Scene of the departing: Ezekiel sees a vision of the glory of God portrayed like he had seen it in his calling earlier. •Scattering in the departing: coals of fire are scattered over Jerusalem (a picture of fiery judgment). •Stages of departing: from the ark to the door of the Temple (v. 4) then finally to the east gate of the Temple (v. 19). Later in the next chapter, it will depart to the Mount of Olives east of the city. “Icabod” is written over Jerusalem (“the glory is departed” 1 Samuel 4:22).
