Christian clings to Jesus despite horrors in India Note: The following contains a story of sexual assault. Friends, Ashima* is a 26-year-old Christian who came to Jesus as a teenager. But she has endured indescribable torment because of her choice to follow Jesus. Open Doors partners recently learned her story and have been helping her—and they are requesting prayer on her behalf. After Ashima started following Christ, her brother expelled her from her village. Soon after, she began having frequent epileptic seizures; she tried to return to her village, but her brother would not allow it. She was forced to live in a slum and take small daily-wage jobs here and there. Her life was very difficult and she often did not have enough to eat. She was hopeful when a girl from her village invited her to come live with her, but a few days after she moved in, the male members of the girl’s family raped Ashima. Ashima was greatly traumatized and physically injured from the attack. Her pastor connected her with Open Doors partners immediately. When they met with her and prayed over her, she wept bitterly. Three days later during another visit she shared, “I was crying the first day not because I was feeling sorry for myself but because when I thought that I had no one in the world; you came to care for me as a brother. My family disowned me because of my faith, but God sent you. I am thankful God is always on lookout for me. “There are no Christians in my village but there are a few in the nearby village. I deeply desire that more people know of God's love in my village. I am not educated but I know Jesus, so I share about Him to everyone whenever I get a chance." Please join us in praying for our courageous sister Ashima. Please pray Ashima would experience comfort and healing from her Heavenly Father, both physically and emotionally. Pray God will heal Ashima from the long-term impact of the trauma of sexual assault—and pray she is able to find healing. Pray Ashima would have the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with her village. Pray that Ashima would be protected and provided for. *Representative names and photos are sometimes used to protect identity.
