Our Lord desires an honest relationship with us. If we aren't honest about our own sin our relationship is based on deception. We may be able to hide our secret life to others, we cannot do it with the Lord.
Humility begins when we realize and admit that we are sinful people who seek a grace we do not (and cannot) deserve. We must stop lying to ourselves. We are not the "great" people we want others to think we are. We are sinners in need of grace.
But here is the amazing news of the gospel: "If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9). In other words, we can be released from the guilt, the shame, and the bondage of our sin. But, that can only happen when we are willing to be honest with God. Today is a good day to begin.
Honesty 8.12.20
If I had cherished iniquity in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened.
